Windows 10: Microsoft update effectively disables wired Ethernet when Wireless adapter is available

After a recent update, if have found that Windows 10 would not obtain an address via DHCP over a 1Gbps wired connection directly to the router in my home. This is not a problem with the router, cable, or Ethernet adapter in my PC, nor is it a problem with the version of the driver. I have found that Windows 10 is prioritizing wireless connections, even when not connected to anything, over wired connections. The network troubleshooter gave me very odd results because, though it identified my wired interface and the driver for it, the test results showed the virtual Ethernet created by Virtual Box as what the test was run on.


I found that if I go into settings and disable the wireless adapter, then reboot, the desktop PC will obtain an address via DHCP and I'm on the network.


I have a NAS and a few other systems connected to a switch that is connected to my router. I do not want the NAS traffic going over the air, it is both too slow and adds to the congestion.


This same problem occurred after an update many months ago, so I'm not sure if the recent update simply enabled the Wireless adapter I had disabled it in the previous incident or if this is a regression of some sort, however the Windows 10 network management should allow the user to select the primary network connection and, and this is very important, honor that selection. Wireless is important in home networking, and growing more so, but it does not replace wired in every case, and there should be some user-visible setting I realize that there probably is a setting somewhere that, with PowerShell or the registry editor can be altered, but that's arcane knowledge and very hard to find for the non-expert in the network control panel.


So I guess it comes down to the following multi-part question:

1. Is this an acknowledged problem?
2. Is there a workaround other than to disable wireless networking entirely on the affected system?
3. Is there going to be a fix in a future Windows 10 update?

Device offline Forgot password ethernet and wireless adapters disabled

Please reply with the below information to know more about the issue:

• What happens exactly when you try to turn on the Ethernet and wireless adapters?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to unplug and replug the Ethernet cable and try to login with Microsoft, also try to turn ‘ON’ the Ethernet and wireless adapters and check if it helps.

IP configuration not valid - interference from ethernet adapter?

Solution 1: No Internet Access In Windows 8.1or Windows 10

Step 1:

Go to Device Manager → Network adapters.
Step 2:

Expand it (Network adapters).


Step 3:

Select your network adapter


Step 4:

Right click on your wireless network adapter or Ethernet adapter and then tap “Update Driver Software”.
(in this case your network adopter is Ethernet adopter so tap your Ethernet adapter)
Step 5:

Now on a new window you will need to click on “Browse my computer for driver software”.




Step 6:

Then select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.



Step 7:

Now choose the “Manufacturer’s drivers” from the list of two and then click next.



Step 8:

After the completion of the process just restart your PC and check if the problem is solved or not. If not, goto solution 2.



Solution 2: No Internet Access In Windows 8.1,windows10

Step 1:

Open command prompt.
Step 2:

Just go on hitting the enter after typing the each command.
netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable
netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled
Step 3:

Now to check if the settings are disabled type:
netsh int tcp show global
then hit enter.
Step 4:

Now the thing left is just rebooting your system and just check if the problem is solved or not and just give feedback.*chuckle*Thumbs

 

Wireless Adapter not working

Method 1:

Step 1: Update network adapter driver from the device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and click on
  Device Manager from the options.
• Expand the Network adapters from the options.
• Right click on the wireless network card and select Update option.
• Restart the computer and check if the changes are effective.

Step 2: If the issue persist, I suggest you to uninstall the network adapter driver from the device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and click on
  Device Manager from the options.
• Expand the Network adapters from the options.
• Right click on the wireless network card and select Uninstall.
• Restart the computer for automatic installation of network adapters and check if the changes are effective.
