Why should I be using a Pin code to log in to my laptop?

Creation of a PIN in Windows 10 unlocks the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on your system board for use in authentication to and from your device via Microsoft Passprt. It makes the device itself one of the factors in multi-factor authentication. It allows
for Public Key Authentication and/or certificate based authentication to and from your device.

Windows Hello works in conjunction with the PIN, TPM and Passport to further add a biometric factor to multi-factor authentication.

All of this is in place to replace and abolish use of the inherently insecure Password Authentication of past OS versions.

Windows 10 Cortana ask for old password?

I am using biometrics on my notebook. I had all kinds of issues looking for an old password. I use a four digit number just in case but so far the biometrics has always worked for me.

Finally, after hitting the next button a few times for the non-existent old password it asked for to scan my biometric password and, I think, my MS password. I now am able to use Cortana. I am wondering if Microsoft did a little re-writing?
