  1. Microsoft Windows 10 File/Folder sharing

I have been working for years to get Win10 File and Folder sharing working properly between a desktop PC and HP 15 Laptop. I am not certain, but it seems that this issue has been around ever since Win 10 was introduced. I have placed at least 8-10 support calls to Best Buy and Microsoft Support for assistance on this issue. When I asked the different technicians when Microsoft was going to fix this issue, I always get a wide variety of answers that did not leave confidence that it would ever be fixed.

I would like to understand why Microsoft has not addressed this issue regarding a feature that has been a basic capability in the product for a very long time.

I have had numerous support resources to adjust services, and network setting, etc. to resolve this issue. Some of these changes or work arounds seemed to be successful, but usually only for a short period of time.

For some time now, I have suspected that Windows Updates have caused the problem to reoccur, but have not had details to confirm this. However, this week I now have some specific details that seem to confirm that the Win 10 Updates are causing the sharing feature to stop working:

    1. On 4/3/20 and 4/7/20 two Assure Microsoft Support Technicians tried to address the sharing issue and their workaround seemed to be ok. Last SR was SRX1498075373.

    2. After these changes were made I created a new restore point on both machines.

    3. Then, just a few days later 4/14/20 the latest Windows updates were applied to my machines andthe sharing immediately stopped working again. Update - 2020-04 Windows 10 Version 1909 KB84549951 and other Office product updates

    4. Then, when I detected that Sharing was not working again, I immediately went back to the prior Restore point on both machines andsharing started working again.

I have paused Microsoft updates for several weeks now but realize that at some point I will need the security fixes that are provided in the updates.

I would gladly share additional information regarding this issue if it will help to get it resolved.

Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

?? How do I PW protect Folders in windows

    hmmm?
Sharing files and folders overview You can share the files and folders stored on your computer, on a network, and on the Web. The method you choose depends on whom you want to share files with, and what computer they will use to access the files.

When you share files or folders, they are not as protected as they are when you do not share them. People with access to your computer or your network might be able to read, copy, or change files that are in a shared folder. You should always be aware that the files and folders that you share are available to other people and be sure to monitor your shared files and folders on a regular basis.

    Important

If your computer is not joined to a domain, you can use the Network Setup Wizard to automatically turn file and printer sharing on or off. To start the Network Setup Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Setup Wizard.
If you both use the same computer

You can put the files you want to share in the Shared Documents folder. Files stored in the Shared Documents folder or its subfolders are always available to other users on your computer.

    Step-by-step procedure
    Note

If you are connected to a network domain, the Shared Documents, Shared Pictures, and Shared Music folders are not available.
If both computers are on the same network

You can share a folder or drive on your computer with others on the network. You can also control whether the files in the shared folder can be modified by other users.

If your computer is connected to a network domain, use this procedure:

    Step-by-step procedure
If your computer is connected to a workgroup, use this procedure:

    Step-by-step procedure
    Note

If you are connected to a network domain, you will need to set the Access control for the folder or drive after sharing it. For more information, go to To set, view, change, or remove file and folder permissions.
If you want to share your files online

You can publish pictures and documents on the Web using the Web Publishing Wizard. The files will be stored in a private, online folder that you manage.

    Step-by-step procedure

If you don't want others to access your files

You can prevent other users from accessing your folders and the files they contain. When your computer is connected to a domain, this is called setting permissions for your file or folder. When your computer is connected to a workgroup, this is called making your folders private.

If your computer is connected to a network domain, use this procedure:

If your computer is connected to a workgroup, use this procedure:

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

How to stop sharing folder for windows 10?

Referring to following link, I would like to know on how to stop sharing folder for windows 10.

Use these steps to stop sharing any folder on Windows 10:

    1. Open Start.
    2. Search for Computer Management and click the top result to open the experience.
    3. Expand the Shared Folders branch from the left pane.
    4. Click the Shares item.
    5. Right-click the folder that you no longer want to share and the Stop Sharing option.
Furthermore, ADMIN$ is found to be Remote Admin under computer management.

There is no option to stop it as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop sharing and remote?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
