  2. I want a link download windows 10 Pro RTM insider preview but I can"t see

Windows 10 build 10240 is only published through Windows Update.

Microsoft has temporarily suspended Preview Builds at this time in preparation for the RTM release on July 29th, so you won't be able to install or activate builds 10162 and 10166.

    How
to upgrade from the Windows 10 Insider Preview to Windows 10 RTM build

Upgrading windows 10 TP to RTM

That the problem. No one know how a clean install of windows 10 preview will work once upgraded to windows 10 rtm. Like Smittychat said
Microsoft might actually allow preview users to install RTM free of charge but could then require a license to activate the operating system, so they would be able to run it on their computers for a limited time.

If Microsoft is going to keep the insiders program going after the Windows 10 RTM they shouldn't require a previous license to keep testing unless there are going to change the program.,

I also have hunch, that Microsoft is going to continue the insider program a different way by allowing home users to test windows 10. Consumers will have a choice between a fast and slow build. The slow build nothing is reported or monitored on your
computer to Microsoft. That why 10 preview may need a windows 7 or 8.1 license. There is another issue as well. The current build is a windows 10 pro preview but some systems were upgraded from home. I am not sure Microsoft wants to give windows
10 pro away for free to insiders. Of course this is just my opinion.

I installed the Win 10 preview so I could test my recording studio software (Sonar X3), and it installed and appears to be working properly. But I won't use Win10 as my "production" system - its strictly for testing and seeing what it is and how it works. When the Win 10 RTM comes out I'll install it as a complete new install.

I installed the Win 10 preview this past Friday. Got updates Saturday (system still worked OK), got more updates Sunday and wound up with a problem that I couldn't correct until I did a "refresh". As this is still a Beta OS things like this are expected. I also expect to crash with some future updates, so trying to use it as a "production system" is out. I see a post now of a user that experienced an Explorer problem after some updates and is looking for a fix, instead of just reinstalling, as the "refresh" didn't help his problem. Reinstalling with a Beta release, to me is no big deal.

? Am I misunderstanding this statement? Does this mean that 1½ million users (or more if you include the Windows 7 users who took advantage of the offer)will get a free copy of Windows 10. There has to be an activation key in the equation there somewhere.
Or maybe the current wild rumor that Windows 10 will be free, is not a dream.

    Hey Dave,

Not a free RTM, but that you will be able to update/upgrade to RTM from preview without losing anything. *Smile

  9. One reason I won't install W10 TP on my real PC, is I thought that I'd need to obliterate it and replace it with the official version (at some later date).
This news may encourage more people to install W10 TP on their real PCs.

I hate installing and uninstalling software (e.g. trialware).
I only want to install programs, use them and update them if required.

Since people have reported all sorts of weird and disturbing issues with b9879, I won't be investing any time in rearranging my real PC just yet.
IMO, the preview trend has been on the wrong trajectory with the last 2 updates (i.e. excellent, broken, broken).
I'll wait and see if MS can get W10 back on track.
As another member posted, MS needs to fix the broken stuff, before they cram in more new features.

There is still plenty of time for them to go insane and totally screw it up. *Sad

  10. When I do go to a full fledged W-10 it will be a clean install.
I never did trust/like upgrades or the like. It does take longer but it's a Clean Install.

I'm still not sure I'll upgrade to 10 when it goes final. If I do it will be a clean install on a SSD.

Tks Shawn. So, presumably, they will have the RTM installed but not activated. I still wonder where MS are headin with that one.

I'm sure that they would get a key when purchasing a RTM copy though. *Tongue

    Hi there

While in principle doing a clean install is obviously the best way and certainly while testing an OS it's the best method too usually.

BUT : I think these days a lot of us have often quite a lot specialized programs installed which is a real pain to find all the updates and serial numbers and re-install again --especially if the software isn't being sold any more. It's often difficult too to chase down obscure hardware drivers etc so I really think an UPGRADE instead of a COMPLETE install is perfectly OK now and will avoid a lot of problems.

As for activation keys --that's not a problem - after (or at) install time you will have to enter your retail key or whatever - just as with previous upgrades.

    Cheers

Jimbo does have a good point. The computers used to operate scientific equipment often has software specifically made for that equipment and has to be setup and calibrated for that specific machine. Just to give an example, I've been doing research lately with Raman spectroscopy. The software for using the machine is a good example of one that has to be setup specifically for the individual piece of equipment. As in, if one part on the Raman spectrometer had to be replaced, the whole software would have to be setup all over again. I was told by the only person at the university who knows how to do it, that it literally takes days, and that's assuming you actually have time to mess with it all day for several days in a row. Naturally the university has a lot of rules about using that computer. If you were to put a flash drive in that computer, you'd be banned from ever touching it again. The one precaution they never took, however, was actually backing up the whole computer, and the hard drive crashed last month. Big mess. Can't get any work done until the start of next semester. If Microsoft does do a continual update/upgrade thing with Windows 10, it would be a royal pain to do a clean install to upgrade computers with that kind of software on a regular basis. But at the same time, I'd bet MS would say "If you don't upgrade within 2 months, you won't get any more security updates" or something similar. Its all speculation at this point, but it will be interesting to see what happens.
