The Hello sign in for my new laptop will not allow me to type in my full password. It only accepts numbers. I have tried to rest the password and that screen also does not allow letters to be used. Help, I have uploaded all of the new updates suggested and I still cannot sign in to my laptop without using the 'reset my pin' process and going to MS to sign in.

Windows Hello Pin reset is not available when accessing my passwords

    Hello Dion, this is Emily.

You mean you want to remove the Windows Hello Pin? Pin is device specific while Microsoft account is account specific.

However, you should be able to get rid of it by using the followng steps:

First, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign in options, scroll down to mid page, under "Additional Settings",Make sure "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello Sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended). " is turned OFF.

Then go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School, make sure you have nothing listed there. If there's an account listed there, click on it and then disconnect. Restart the computer.

Then you can go to the Windows hello page, click on PIN and find the remove button to remove it.

Sign-in option with PIN (Windows Hello)

    Hi Sergei__________1,

    I'm Amr, an independent advisor.

If you use a Microsoft account to access Windows 11, the button to remove the PIN could appear greyed out.

The remove button could be greyed out if the passwordless option is enabled on the Windows 11 account or if the passwordless account is enabled on your Microsoft account.

Disable Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts

    Use these steps:

    Open Settings.

    Click on Accounts.

    Click the Sign-option tab.

Under the “Additional settings” section, turn off the “For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft account on this device” toggle switch.

You may need to restart the Settings app and the computer to apply the changes and enable the option to remove the PIN.

    Disable passwordless Microsoft account

    Kindly follow these steps:

    Open Settings.

    Click on Accounts.

    Click the Your info tab.

Under the “Related settings” section, click the Accounts option.

    Click the Security tab.

    Click on Advanced security options.

Under the “Additional security” section, turn off the Passwordless account option.

    Continue with the on-screen directions.

    Restart your computer.

After you complete the steps, the “PIN (Windows Hello)” setting will show the remove button on Windows 11.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.

    Best Regard

    Amr

Microsoft Windows 11 Security Pin is not allowing letters to be typed to access Hello...

Windows Hello PIN is a security risk

First of all, I love using facial recognition to sign on.

However, Windows Hello has a security weakness you can drive a truck through. If the facial recognition does not work, you can just sign in and take over the machine with a numeric PIN. A PIN is nothing more than a password, only weaker:

    1) It only takes numbers. Every website I have ever been to that tells people how to have secure passwords emphasizes the importance of a variety of characters: digits, letters – both lowercase
    and uppercase, and special characters.

    2) Another well-known suggestion for improving the quality of passwords is that they be long. It is much more difficult to remember a long string of numbers than it is an equally long alphanumeric
sequence, for which a user can come up with some kind of mnemonic. So, what is an ordinary human being likely to do? Write down their long PIN, which is the very worst kind of security.

Please allow me to at least use a password as my backup Windows Hello sign-on method.
