Windows 10: Microsoft Windows Antivirus Causing Performance Issues on My Gaming Desktop

Hello everyone,I'm having an issue with the default Microsoft Windows antivirus on my gaming desktop. I've been using this antivirus for a while now, but lately, I've noticed that it's causing my gaming desktop to slow down significantly.I've tried disabling the antivirus temporarily, and my desktop runs much smoother without it. However, I'm not comfortable leaving my system without an antivirus, so I'm looking for a solution to this issue.I've tried checking the antivirus settings and optimizing it for gaming mode, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. My Desktop Performance issue

My desktop computer specification is

• Processor: AMD FX 8320
  
• Motherboard: Asus M5A97
  
• RAM: Kingston HyperX 16 GB (8*2)
  
• HD: 1TB WD Black
  
• Graphics Card: 2GB Saphire 5450
  
• SMPS: Cooler Master 650W
  
• OS: Windows 10
  

I optimized my desktop computer well.

• Limited applications are installed in my desktop computer.
  
• Limited applications are enabled in startup.
  
• In msconfig, limited services are enabled.
  
• Browsers are optimized.
  
• No games are installed.
  
• No temp/ junk files
  
• Internet Speed is fine.
  
• Internet Security is updated and working fine.
  
• In Task Manager, CPU usages and temperature are normal.
  

However, its performance is low.

• Please guide me for additional steps or in-depth steps for its improved performance.
  
• And I would like to diagnose its benchmark performance. What applications I can use for it?

Performance issues during gaming in Windows 10

To be able to understand the issue better, let us know the relevant error messages which can help us to ascertain the cause of the issue. Also, what is the make and model of the computer you are using?

Now, here a few important points that can help you.

• PC games will generally have two sets of system requirements, the ‘minimum’ and the ‘recommended’. So it again depends on the game and how much PC resource it needs to run at optimal performance.
  
• Next, certain performance tweaking/monitoring programs may seem to help, but it is only as good as a separate program running in the background. Few third party antivirus/firewall programs may also cause such issues.
  
• Apart from the dedicated graphics, a lot of other considerations are also there to make. Few of them are:
  
  CPU performance
  
  Hard Disk- SSDs are known to perform better in terms of read/write operations
  
  RAM memory and speed
  
  Sound Card
  
  So, it is not possible to give proper benchmark in terms of gaming
  using any particular hardware aspect.

As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to place the computers in a Clean Boot state and run the game.

It helps to identify if there are any third party application/software to be causing the issue.

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: As the article is designed for Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7. Unlike launching step for 'System Configuration', options and steps to Clean Boot are same for Windows 10.

Thank you for providing us the troubleshooting steps that you have performed.

I suggest to run the game in compatibility mode by following the steps below and check if it helps.

• 
  Right click on the ‘Setup’ icon for the game and click on properties.
  
• 
  Under Compatibility tab, check the option for ‘Run in Compatibility mode’.

  Select Windows 8.1 from the drop down list.
