  1. Microsoft Windows Defender using high resources suddenly

Out of the blue, Antimalware Service Executable has suddenly began using over 750mb of RAM, a constant 1-2mb of disk writing, and 1-5% of my CPU.While this is a small portion of what I have available, this sudden spike is concerning, it only started noticeably a few days ago. I've attempted rescheduling the scans, and adding itself to exclusion, with no luck. I've also used MD to scan, and Malwarebytes as well to scan, with nothing out of the ordinary.I've done diskm, and sfc scans, with nothing spiking.I'd like to know what it is doing, or how to remedy this. I did recently-ish update windows

    :)

    Windows Defender Released

Microsoft has released the final version of its Windows Defender anti-spyware utility. Windows Defender is a product of the Microsoft acquisition of GIANT Software. Previously known as Windows AntiSpyware, after a two years beta period it's now available for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 under the name Windows Defender. Windows Defender incorporates Real-Time Protection to monitor systems for spyware activity, automated spyware removal with scheduled scans, full integration with Internet Explorer 7.0 and automatic spyware definition updates from Microsoft. Windows Defender is available freely to all customers running a genuine copy of Windows. Microsoft has also announced that customers will each be allowed to report two support incidents for free with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

    Do you use Windows Defender?

I used to use AVG but that thing seemed like a resource hog! Windows defender is only spyware protection *Frown Microsoft Windows Defender using high resources suddenly :(

I use Microsoft Security Essentials now which does Anti Virus and Spyware protection. Its free so long as your copy of Windows passes Genuine Validation. Its quick and doesn't seem to hog up as much resources. *Toast :toast:
