Windows 10: Microsoft Windows has broken printing and scanning capabilities even with new printers

Sadly, I have no faith in any of the major companies any more, especially Microsoft. The greed and lack of business ethics is too overwhelming and disgusting. It's still one of the richest companies in the world and they have maneuvered and manipulated to the position where they don't even support the basic functionality of their products. This is evident by the fact that we have to help each other in this forum with guesswork, or trial and error verses Microsoft technicians reviewing these errors and responding to customer/consumer issues. Print to PDF missing in Printer List

Hi William,

We suggest that you disable and re-enable the Print to PDF feature. Here are the steps:

• Click on the Start menu and type in Windows Features.
• Choose Turn Windows features on or off.
• On the next window, find Microsoft Print to PDF and disable it. Click
  OK to save changes.
• Restart your PC.
• Repeat the same steps to re-enable Microsoft Print to PDF.

Printer will not print color

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand the difficulties that you are unable to print in color. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed? (Type winver
  in Windows search/Run command)
• What is the make and model of the PC?
• What is the model number of the Printer?
• Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

• How is the printer connected to the computer (Wired/Wireless)?

Let us try a few steps and check.

Method 1: Run Printer Troubleshooter

1. Click on Start button and then Settings .
   
2. Click on UpdateandSecurity and then click on
   Troubleshoot.
   
3. Run the troubleshooter for Printer.

Method 2: Update Printer Driver.

We would suggest you to connect the printer to the PC as wired connection, then download and install the
Firmware & Software Utility driver from HP website.

Method 3: Check Printer preferences.

1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
   
   The Print window opens.
   
2. Open the Properties dialog box.
   
   Depending on the software application, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
   
3. Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:
   
   • Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.
     
4. ​After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.

Method 4: HP Print and Scan Doctor

We would suggest you to use HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows as
this will fix printing and scanning problems with HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free tool for Windows.

Windows 10 Home Won't Print to Remote Printer


I have three computers.
Machine 1: Windows 10 pro, has the USB Brother HL-5040 printer
Machine 2: Windows 10 pro, prints OK to the remote printer.
Machine 3: Windows 10 home, Used to print, but not anymore (THIS IS THE PROBLEM).
I’ve tried everything that I can think of, and would appreciate any suggestions.
I did these steps on Machine 3 that did not work.

1. Remove the printer device.
2. Add a Printer
3. The printer that I want isn’t listed
4. Select a shared printer by name
5. Browse
6. Select the displayed Machine 1.
7. Select the displayed Printer.
8. Next
9. Failure “Connect to Printer”.
10. Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or Hostname
11. Next
12. Set Hostname to Machine 2, and set port name.
13. Detecting TCP/IP Port
14. Additional Port information required.
15. Device Type – Standard, Brother Port Server
16. Next
17. Detecting the Driver Model
18. Install The Print Driver
19. Select Brother and Brother HL-5040
20. Next
21. Replace the Current Driver
22. Printer Name (setting it to HL-5040)
23. Next
24. Do not share this printer
25. Next
26. You’ve successfully added “HL-5040”
27. Finish

Printing on Machine 3 puts the document in the print queue, which reports error printing.
Printing from Machine 2 to the printer on Machine 1 works perfectly.
All three machines are in the same HomeGroup. Machine 3 can access the shared files from Machine 1.
