Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard disrupted by attached 3.0 hard drive to same PC

My new MS wireless mouse and keyboard are disrupted whenever I attach a 3.0 external hard drive, until I take the hard drive off. A post regarding the same problem on a laptop advised using connections on opposite side, but a PC has no opposite side.

I may have solved the problem by moving the bluetooth dongle to a different USB 3.0 port row from the USB port for the 3.0 external hard drive. Even if the practical problem is solved, I sure would appreciate some explanation because this seems entirely mysterious to me. How can moving the dongle from one 3.0 port to another solve the problem of disrupting the wireless mouse and keyboard? Are USB ports on the back of a PC not independent of each other entirely? The hardware is Dell Inspiron 660 Windows 10 64 bit and all updated.

    :)

    Recommend a keyboard/mouse?

Right now I'm looking to get the Logitech MX3200, but was looking at Microsoft Ergonomics Keyboard 4000. But Could not really find a wireless mouse that stood out. I can do with a wired keyboard, but any suggestions on a good wireless mouse?

What would you guys recommend? MX3200 or Microsoft 4000 + whatever wireless mouse

Microsoft 5050 Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Not Detected

    Hi,
I have a new Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard 2000 now.
Tried what you suggested with an old keyboard, connected the new one and it's a bit better.
I stll get an error saying the 'MKCHelper.exe' file is missing.
I still can't uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Centre, as it says it is on the PC, but is not listed in the list of software to uninstall.
When I slow the wheel scroll speed down, it works fine, but when I restart the PC I have to do it again, as it speeds up so much I can't control it.

Microsoft Wireless mouse and keyboard lag in Windows 10

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have clarity on this issue and guide you accordingly, kindly help us with the following information.

    • What is the exact model number of your wireless mouse and keyboard?

This usually happens if there’s a signal interference. If you’re using a Wi-Fi router, you may want to move it away from the keyboard/mouse receiver to see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to try the troubleshooting methods listed in the following articles and see if it works.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,
