Windows 10: Microsoft XPS Document Writer not showing up in my Win11 Printers&Scanners

Microsoft XPS Document Writer not showing up in my Win11 Home Build 22621 Printers&Scanners, this is a printer QuickBooks uses to create PDFs. I've already installed the Optional Features:"XPS Viewer" and rebooted. Is there a missing step or a way to force install of the Microsoft XPS Document Writer?***Moved from Surface / Surface Laptop / Surface Laptop 5 / Install and update***

Yes!!!! That worked!

Specifically I un-checked XPS Document writer, rebooted, re-checked it, and voila.... XPS Document Writer now shows up in list of available printers.

As to WHY I (and others) had to go through this would best be answered by MS Windows geeks.

Missing Microsoft XPS Document Writer

Hi, Brad and LK375,

I am having this exact same issue and I suddenly could not use QuickBooks to print or email invoices since 4 weeks ago, which
is most annoying.

The technical support of QuickBooks has logged into my computer and shown me the XPS Document Writer is missing from the printer list of Microsoft on my computer, so they could not either add or reinstall it back to
allow QuickBooks to print or email invoices.

I am wondering if you or anyone have eventually have the issue resolved. If so, could you please kindly advise how you make the XPS Document Writer show up in the printer
list under Microsoft again?

I have attached a screenshot showing the disappearance of XPS Document Writer in the printer list under Microsoft. Thank you.

 

Cannot reinstall Microsoft XPS Document Writer

I tried to use an Intuit QuickBooks tool to fix a problem with saving to a pdf. The tool deleted Microsoft XPS Document Writer from my printer list and then was unable to add it back. Intuit gave me a link to instructions for re-installing Microsoft XPS
Document Writer (https://community.intuit.com/articles/1019822-reinstall-microsoft-xps-document-writer-in-windows-7-8) myself. I followed the instruction exactly, but in the end got an error message "Unable to install printer. The handle is invalid." and I
have no idea what that means. I tried the Microsoft fixit DeviceCenterDiagnostic but it did not find anything. I tried to re-install Microsoft XPS Document Writer by choosing that I had a disk and browsed to the .inf file and in the end got the same error
message "Unable to install printer. The handle is invalid." How can I get around that and get Microsoft XPS Document Writer back as a valid printer?
