Migrating Multiple Disk Setup from MBR to GPT without data loss?

I was able to boot into the clean install..

Then it took almost 2 hours to restore the partition (for barely 140 GB)

There was an option to "Replace Master Boot Record" with the old one from the image, I assumed I had to uncheck that... Was this correct?

I can't boot at the moment.... I have that black screen with the ' _ ' blinking...

I tried the Fix Boot Problems in Macrium but didn't solve anything...

There's something really weird in my BIOS when I insert a Disk on my CD/DVD, it gives me the option to boot in UEFI:CD/DVD or CD/DVD....
An without it being connected it shows me a Master Boot Record for Disk 1....

    Any ideas?

It's not weird for a UEFI Bios , it will show the UEFI Device and the Old MBR style Devices too if you Bios is set to UEFI WITH CSM enabled.

It is so you can still boot legacy devices or non-uefi DVDs etc.

are you using lx07 new instructions ?

GPT Disk/UEFI Boot does not need the MBR but I am not sure whatelse you did before that as Macrium takes 12-14 mins to re-image my Main SSD , not hours...

Migrating Multiple Disk Setup from MBR to GPT without data loss?

Hang on let me read it again , ok seems good to me after looking at your Disk partitions again.

Did you do the Fix Windows Boot in MR after copying your C over the New C: ?

Looks like you did , but what and how did you restore YOUR C drive after booting into the Clean install, that should of been done from the boot disk too.

Clean and convert disk 0 to GPT (CHECK)
Use Macrium to image Windows Partition (currently on disk 2) to disk 1 (or external drive). No need for system reserved only C: (CHECK)
Make a Marcium recovery disk. (CHECK)
    Shut Down (CHECK)
Unplug drives 1 and 2 (CHECK)
Set BIOS to boot UEFI (CHECK - Seems to be automatic)
Install Windows 10, boot into it and check you have the correct EFI partitions as per your TechNet link. (CHECK)
    Plug in disk 1 (CHECK)
Boot from Macrium recovery disk and restore Windows to C partition on disk 0 from your macrium image on disk 1. I.e replace your newly installed C drive contents with the contents of what you are using now. (CHECK) (I unchecked Replace Master Boot Record)
(Did the Fix Windows Boot - Although the only option is the BOOT.INI)

    Unplug 1 again (CHECK)
Check it boots OK ............................................ (Can't boot)
Plug in both other drives again.
    Tidy up

Ok . Cos it sounds like it found your OLD C:\ on Disk 1, .........Is it an Image or a Partition Copy?

not the new C:\Windows (win10) on Disk 0 , or old boot files from windows 7 perhaps if Disk 0 was not totally cleaned.

So at the moment you have only disk 0 connected and it will not boot?

  10. Kbird Win User
Said he did CHECK ..... unless disk 0 got unplugged instead ?

It's the restored partition, I doubt there's any trace left from that old Win7 install...

Yes, only Disk 0 is connected an can't boot.

And the blinking " _ " is the same as when I did it the first time that didn't work..

and you totally cleaned Disk 0 of all partitions ? deleted everything ? down to unallocated space?

And it had the 4 GPT Partition after you booted into win 10 ?

And your BIOS is definitely set to UEFI? No CSM settings or anything? I think (but don't know) that flashing cursor is when it is trying to boot legacy.

If disk 0 is partitioned GPT, has the correct partitions and your BIOS is set to boot UEFI it really should work.

I'll see if I can find the UEFI command to fix boot - I think it is as easy as booting from macrium disk, going to command prompt and entering bcdboot C:\Windows but let me check (or perhaps someone can confirm).

You maybe right LX07 .............. perhaps the Boot Order is now incorrect with all this unplugging of drives , if UEFI is working the 1st boot device will say Windows Boot Manager , if it is set to something else it maybe why ...

Hold on, I think I got it....
(I was trying the automatic repair from windows just in case, prior to doing that manual bcdboot and others... But got tired of waiting and, yes, I'm the worst but I hard rebooted...)

That MBR boot selection did the trick, I'm gonna send you a screenshot in a bit, something is very very weird there on my BIOS....
Remember I mentioned there was an MBR on my Disk 1 (Without it being connected) ... Well... Selecting that did the trick...
