Windows 10: Migration to SSD/HDD system

Hi,

I have a cloned copy of my existing HDD and am considering buying (or personaly upgrading to) a new system with a SSD and HDD. Obviously the current Windows installation is on a HDD, so is it possiblethat I could I restore the cloned Windows system to a SSD and the remaining files to the new HDD?

Conversion to Windows 10

I converted from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Professional. I then migrated Windows 10 from an HDD to an SSD. I kept the HDD for data files. I recently had to reinstall Windows 10 clean, which cleaned everything from the SSD. There is a system
Volume Information folder on the SSD and it is about 6gb. I still have a System Volume Information folder on the HDD and it is 48gb. I also keep the Window Image Backup on the HDD and it appears to be in its own folder (WindowsImageBackup) and is 26gb. The
apps (programs) are kept on the SSD along with the operating system. Can I delete the System Volume Information folder from the HDD? I feel it is a leftover from when the system was migrated over to the SSD from the HDD. Any assistance is appreciated.

you will run into activation problems and system problems if the chipset is different. i.e. if you are changing your motherboard to upgrade a processor family or even give you more ports for ram. you can clone but the system will pick up its a different system.

 

And there are very easy ways to reactivate Windows 10 on the new system.

 

The main concern is that my existing HDD (C:/) is a 1 TB disk (Cloned using Farstream DriveClone) and the SSD would be 500 Mb. Can you selectivly transfer the Windows system from a cloned disc, while leaving the program files etc behind?

 

No. You would have to do a clean install of Windows 10 on the new system, then transfer the digital license for Windows 10 from the old computer to a new computer. You must be logged into the same Microsoft account on both computers to transfer the digital license.
