I recently bought a new Win11 HP tower Version 21H2, Build 22000.527 and have spent over a month getting all the software, including Microsoft 365, onto it. Before loading half a terabyte of documents onto it, I decided to test searching on it first and I'm glad I did. I copied over just a small folder with a few subfolders and files in it .docx, .xlsx, .jpg, etc. ...As a background side-step, I want to keep all my originals on the computer but have a copy backing up to one-drive for safety and in case I want to reference them on another device. But the key thing is that the originals

Finding documents that I have created and saved in Word.

• How did you save the Word document on your computer?
• Where did you save the documents? Is it in Desktop, This PC or are you using OneDrive?
• How are you trying to search the documents that you are trying to find?

Lost Word documents

Hi LornaRadke,

Firs check your recycle bin folder probably you can find your lost file there. If not found there then try another way of searching your lost documents file by their name in the search box.

Still not found, then apply these manual steps: Open MS Word > click the File Tab > Click Manage Document >select Recover Unsaved Documents from the drop-down
list > Check for your missing file in the dialog box >Open the recovered Word document > click the Save As button in the top banner.

Probably you will find your lost documents on this list.

Finally if not shows there then try the last alternative option i.e. third party free data recovery programs like Recuva, stellar data recovery free edition, recoverit, etc. These utility programs completely free and can help you to recover your lost
files. You can try your luck. Thanks

 

Unable to find Word documents all of a sudden on Windows 10

• Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?
• Have you activated System Restore point on your device?
• What are the troubleshooting steps you have performed while trying to resolve this issue?
• What exactly happens when you try to search for the files manually from Search bar?

Step 1: I suggest you to check if the content is hidden on your device.

Windows + E, click on View tab, check mark the
Hidden items

Step 2: I suggest you to run a virus scan to check if it resolves the issue.
