  2. Microsoft GameInput causes laptop to freeze.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

Because you need to use Xbox programs often, and Xbox programs also run based on gameinput, there may be no good way to disable or uninstall it. As you said, no matter how you disable it, it will be automatically started by updating or restarting.

However, after checking, it seems that no one has the freezing problem caused by gameinput like you, so I wonder if it is because your gameinput service is tampered with or infected by a virus or a third-party program.

You can use defender or other anti-virus software to perform a full anti-virus scan to check whether there is any suspected infection.

You can also go to the relevant game forums to check whether there are users with the same problems as you.

Keep us posted if you encounter any challenges along the process.

    Best regards

Microsoft GameInput causes laptop to freeze.

Lately, I've noticed my laptop freezing while I'm in the middle of playing games (notably it's happened with Borderlands 3 and Final Fantasy XIV) and upon checking my Reliability Monitor, I notice that a freeze is always preceded by Microsoft GameInput performing a "Successful application reconfiguration."

Majority of the red Xs in that image are from Windows freezing due to Microsoft GameInput.

I've read some other responses this issue involving removing Xbox and Windows Gaming Services, however those are not options for me as I use the Xbox app frequently and that requires Gaming Services to be installed. I have checked and made sure that both my BIOS and all my drivers are up to date as well but the freezes still happen. As it stands, the only viable solution is manually uninstalling GameInput from my system, but then it also periodically reinstalls itself after some time.

Something to note, these issues only started to occur when Microsoft GameInput updated to version 10.1.22621.1011.

Are there any potential solutions or workarounds to this issue? Maybe even a way to permanently remove GameInput and stop it from reinstalling itself?

    What is ‘Microsoft GameInput’?

    Hi retrobit64

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Rest assured that Microsoft GameInput is a legitimate process, it is not malware, that service adds support for game controllers and accessories in Windows
