Windows 10: Minecraft "authenticate to microsoft services"

I had recently been playing on a bedrock realm with some friends. It worked perfectly find earlier today. I tried to join the realm just now and it keeps saying "you need to authenticate to kicrosoft services". I have no clue what to do, can somebody help?

mincraft bedrock server - You need to authenticate with microsoft services

Has anyone found a solution to hosting a Minecraft bedrock server (which has worked fine for a long time), all of a sudden showing the error message 'You need to authenticate with Microsoft services'

tried:

- signing out and in again

- restarting server

- turning server into offline / back into online

- reinstalling Minecraft app on my PC

- checked logs and confirmed full access to the internet for server

suggestions?
