Windows 10: Minecraft on iPad will not allow my son to play on Realms

I purchased MC for my son for xmas. He would now like to try Realms. When we hit "Servers" or anything similar it says:You cannot play on Realms because of how your Microsoft Account is set up. Please ensure your online...So we go to the link and logged on with my account. We set up a new account for my son, and invited him in Microsoft Family. We logged into that account and accepted, and he now shows up in the Family.When we click on his "panel" whatever its called In Your family, we have several options, none of which has anything to do with security on games. Playing Minecraft Realms with people who bought Minecraft off the Mojang Website.

There should be no difference between Minecraft purchased from the Microsoft Store and Mojang website as they are cross-platform play compatible. You can join/invite people in a Realm as long as they are also listed as Xbox Live friends.
