Windows 10: MiniDV camera recognized as audio device by computer

I've recently bought a 15 year old Mini-DV Sony handycam DCR HC45e to use in a few short films. Camera is in great condition and seems to be working perfectly, except for the fact no computer seems to recognize it properly. They do recognize a device has been connected through the USB cable, but they display it as an unespecified audio device. Play Memories Home won't recognize it as a camera either, so I can't import the tape's content.I can't find a drive to update my device either.

New camera - tried to different brands - computer will only recognize the audio device. The device list does say there's a camera but it will not connect as a camera, only microphone

If the camera is not listed at all, it could be a hardware issue.

Assuming the camera is listed in the device manager, you can try updating the driver by right-clicking on the camera and selecting "Update driver". If that does not work, you can also try uninstalling the driver and then restarting your computer to let Windows automatically reinstall the driver.
