Windows 10: Miracast will not work with 802.11 /AC dongle

This is an HP laptop with built in 802.11 b/g/n/ Realtek chipset. Miracast DOES work with this device. I bought an 802.11 b/g/n/AC USB 3 dongle with a Realtek chip to speed things up a bit. DOES NOT work with the dongle. No big deal, just curious as to why. Drivers are all up to date and this is a spankin' new HP model 17-BS019DX. Very nice home laptop BTW. I am computer literate, so I've been down a few roads looking for answers

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, heck, even guesses, LOL.

Can you force your dongle to use the n or g radio and then can you check. Not sure what you are Miracasting to but I'm wondering if you use the AC radio on PC does the receiving device share that capability.

Even if you're connected to 5 GHz, you should still be able to Miracast at 2.4 GHz since both radios in the dual band WiFi are actually active (that's why you can see both radios on the to Wi-Fi SSID list)

 

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll try and answer both questions and add a bit more info. The laptop in question is my wife's and I ran into this problem while setting it up for her.
I have 2 devices that I am trying to connect to, for screen mirroring only. 1) A Samsung model 5000 smart TV with built in mirroring (fairly new). 2) An older Push2TV PTV3000 (Netgear). Neither have settings I can fiddle with. Both work with my main laptop, which has an 801.11 AC adapter and Android tablets. My main laptop is forced to AC because I have an AC router and I don't want it trying to auto select.
Since I've posted, I bought another dongle and it has the same problem.
Forcing n or g has no effect, both are dual band, but I can't force a frequency. I really don't have a lot of options in the "Advanced" folder for either dongle in Device Manager, or the built in WiFi adapter for that matter.

On a side note, I remember reading (somewhere) that Miracast was a feature of the chipset. But IIRC, that was for Intel. I'm grasping at straws here *Redface
