I may have a solution for you guys. I've been looking on google and the only main post right now regarding this issue on windows 10 is yours! I went to try ojuniour's solution and realized that the device "ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in device manager wasn't there for me. So I did a little digging and ran into this page. I ran a search for new devices in Device Manager and the ACPI compliant battery popped up instantly, but it would disappear on reboot. So I read down the thread and the Microsoft support guy replying to the question suggested that the person needed to upgrade the battery driver from the manufacturer.

So I went to my laptops manufacturer page (gateway) and loaded up the downloads, and there was no downloadable driver for the battery on the website. Just before I left the site, I took a look around on the download page, and something caught my eye: a BIOS update from 2011 that "Fixes 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery' was disappeared in device management at B710 CPU". I did not have this issue on this olderish laptop which came with windows 7, but maybe windows 8 caused this issue (was released in 2011) and so an update was put forward. The laptop is a Gateway NV57H fyi.

I downloaded and installed this BIOS update, and the battery was back! Now, it seems like the OP was not missing his battery device in the device manager, because he said he has tried resetting the two that ojuniour suggested and it didn't work. But this may be an issue that affects different computers differently. I don't think it would hurt to go take a look for any available BIOS updates for your laptop!! I haven't seen anyone say they've found a solution that works yet, so I thought I'd send my process your way and maybe it can help one of you guys! Good luck! *Smile

  3. Thanks coreyw2000, your suggestion worked. I visited the manufacturer website and downloaded the latest BIOS update, rebooted the computer, and the battery icon is there. Very nice work.

Just an update on this... since the last time I was here, the num lock on the initial login screen and the battery icon are having a ball on a merry go round, I think... *Rolleyes I have either one or the other... only once both of them worked for about 10 seconds, I think... and then the icon disappeared again... Trying to live with it till there's a solution...

Just realized someone had a solution - so I tried the Acer update site > nothing remotely close... In fact, no updates... Will have a look around...

The BIOs thing is a bridge too far for me, I'm afraid... and I'm not sure if it will solve the problem permanently anyway. Browsing for other solutions I bumped into the Microsoft ACPI thingy and tried it again. You don't even have to uninstall it... If you scan for new hardware, the icon comes up... but when you reboot, it's gone again...

What I also found out is that Win8 had the same problem (mine hasn't - different Acer laptop, not this one) for some people...

When I look into the properties of the system tray where you can customize it, there is no power icon at all. The funny part is that at the moment I am looking at it *really after another Microsoft APCI scan but it does not come into the system tray list.

Somehow, somewhere there must have been a mix-up with desktop and laptop versions maybe? Far fetched? I'm not sure, really. Before installing the upgrade I have been browsing the comments of 'early birds, the insiders, and at a certain moment the desktops apparently had acquired a battery icon and the laptops had none... Maybe Microsoft should take a step back and have a look if not something of that episode kind of found its way down to us?...*Wink

  7. Nil, what's your laptop make and model?

  9. I went to the Acer site and punched in your model number (just the 5750, no letters) and chose windows 8 as the os (assuming, as before, that this issue is new with Windows 8 and continues into Windows 10). Under bios downloads they do have the exact same update name I found on gateways site! I used the Acer USA website. It should solve your problem!

    Thanks! missing battery meter :)
The thing is that though I am quite good at fiddling with all kinds of software and the usual computer problems, the BIOS is a bit terra incognita for me - 'there be dragons'... ;-) And I am not so sure if I can get out of any problems I might run into, be it by doing something wrong... But I will certainly have another look at it tomorrow... (5 a.m. here at the moment - got to sleep a bit...)

  11. Fair enough! On my laptop, it's simply an .exe file. You run it and it install and reboots. You don't have to go mess around in the bios setup... It literally installs like a program. Sweet dreams!

  12. Not sure if Home Premium has gpedit. But if it does - I have Pro and this solved my issues.

Check Angilsons post in this thread. Or my very last one *Wink

    Hi guys,
I'm experiencing now this problem (after having upgraded to windows 10 directly from windows 7), and I see that redoing the scan makes the battery indicator reapper. However, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 4830TG, I looked in the website for my model but I could not find any updates concerning ACPI compliant battery, can someone confirm that it does not exist for my model and/or suggest another solution for my issue? thanks
