Windows 10: Missing COM ports from Device Management in Windows 11

I updated to a new windows 11 laptop and I am trying to connect to several COM devices via USB. In the device manager the device, is listed under "Other Devices." On the old system it was listed under, "Ports COM & LPT". The device driver appears in the universal serial bus controller. I have python code that connects to the device via pyserial. Using serial.tools.comports, I am unable to see any connected com devices. I have tried to "Add legacy device" but the menu is not available. How do I get COM ports back or is there another library I can use to interface with the devices?

Unable to find USB Serial Port (Ports COM & LPT) in Device Manager Windows 11

After updating to Windows 11 I can no longer get the serial port in Ports COM & LPT from the Device Manager.

When I select Device Manager nothing shows up, I cannot see Ports COM & LPT.

These are the steps I have tried:

IN DEVICE MANAGER

• View: Show hidden devices in Device Manager (nothing happens)
  
• Scan for hardware changes
  
• Action: Add legacy hardware. Used both search recommended and add manually.
  
• When trying to add Communication Port: "Windows cannot determine the settings from this device". Does not work and have a yellow warning sign. When adding legacy hardware next time it is uninstalled since it says it does not work.
  
• When trying to add Serial Port: "The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance".
  

WINDOWS UPDATE

Making sure all updates are done (both software and hardware)

My system

• Windows 11
  
• HP Pavilion Laptop
  

 

Com Port is Missing / Ports Option Not Available In Device Manager

COM port should be listed in Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT).

See if you can find them. If they're not listed in the Device Manager, you can try these suggestions to see what’s preventing the ports from getting displayed in device manager.

Method 1: Check for hidden devices as below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows+X and click on Device Manager.
• Click on View menu and select Show hidden devices. See if this helps in getting the ports to list.

Method 2: Install the latest drivers for your motherboard. See if this proves to be of any help.

Device manufacturers often release updates to their drivers to enhance performance or fix compatibility issues. To get the latest driver, visit the support section of your motherboard manufacturer’s website.

Imaging Devices missing in Device Manager and Webcam doesn't working

Since you mentioned that the said driver is missing in Device Manager, what we suggest is for you to check in the Hidden Devices section on Device Manager. Kindly follow the steps below:

• On the desktop, press Windows key + X and select
  Device Manager.
• Click on View and select
  Show Hidden Devices.
• Check for the webcam under Imaging Devices.
• If the webcam is listed, then right-click on it and select
  Update Driver Software
• Select Browse My Computer for Driver Software and follow the prompted steps.
