Windows 10: Missing documents from C:\user\my documents during October update

Hi everybody in the community,

After greetings and well wishes.

All my documents, word, excel and whatnot were vanished from the file folder in C:\ on 16-Sep-2018 between 7.00 PM and 8.00 PM Saudi Arabian time, wiping out my years of work from the computer. I am a participant of Windows insider program.

I had some files up to 2016 (in several thousands) in Onedrive and Flash storage, but anything from 1-Jan-2017 to 16-09-2018 was lost including updated files from 2016 and before.

There was a talk that Microsoft will return these files snatched away from the users. Like all of us, I am using genuine Windows 10 and Office home and business 2016. All other programs are from Microsoft stores mostly. No pirated programs are being used.

Now two months have passed since this bloody mishap and I could not get back anything from what was snatched from me by Microsoft, event though the October update was successful finally after several failures and resetting my computer.

Please, dear members, please prevail upon Microsoft and uncle Bill Gates to redress our grievances arising out of this grand deceit, which never happened before.

My Documents Files - Deleted?

I have a PC where I have moved My Docs away from my C: to my E: so i can perhaps suggest a few things to check.

1. The documents and settings folder will still be present on your C: (although unused)
2. My Documents on my E: is shown as E:\Data (do you have a similar directory)
3. Is your missing data in this \Data folder if it exists?
4. If you click the My Documents shortcut does it take you to the default C:\doc and settings\blah blah, or does it take you to the \Data folder?

Ive had a similar issue with an application resetting the My Docs path back to its orig location and in essence orphaning the My Docs on my E:

 

Need to redirect "C:\Users\Dave\Documents" to "D:\doher\Documents"

Exactly, and I did use mklink as you suggested. The links now work in my documents without haveing to edit them. So far, no downside.

Thanks for the reply though my drive letter is actually F:\ and does not show a Data folder. When I click on the shortcut it takes me straight to my (administrators name)/Documents, so the link is correct. Not sure what happened.
