Windows 10: Missing H/D on PC

Hello Guys and gals , i hope everyone is Doing well, i have done monthly for the past year on my External Drive, this morning when i went to do a full system backup the External drive ( Drive I ) would not Show , did a restart, un plugged and then re plugged and it still did not show up, i was wondering if that was a sign of the Ext HD going Bad? and is it possible to recover it before it Goes for good, i have quite a lot of music and movies on it

• Type Command prompt in the search bar.
• Type-in the following command:
  
  attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
• Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

• Click on the File Explorer.
• Select This PC.
• Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
• Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

put in new h/d computer does not see it in disk management its a dell precision t3500 using windows 10

 

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
