Windows 10: Missing Photos folders

Hi,


I have recently upgraded windows and have noticed that i cannot find my Photos or Documents anywhere. I have years worth of data in these.

they were usually in the default pictures and documents folders in windows explorer.


i have tried looking in hidden folders and also in users, cannot find a old windows folder and all have mysteriously disappered from onedrive also!


any help would be appreciated as i have years worth of photos and memories that i now cannot access!

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

• Did you made any changes to the system prior to this issue?
• Did your photo's got deleted from the PC?
• Did the folders or photo's got hidden?
• Did you check by changing the sort order of the folders?

If not, I suggest you to open the folder which contains your photo's and right click on it and change the sort order of photo's and check if you are able to find it.

Missing Photos

Hi Tanya,

There are different ways to restore your deleted or missing files, such as restoring it from previous versions or from a backup. Since that your back up hard drive isn't working, we suggest that you restore your deleted or missing files from previous versions.
Follow these steps:

• Click on Start.
• Open File Explorer.
• Navigate to the folder that used to contain the file or folder, and then right-click on it.
• Select Restore previous versions.
  If the folder was at the top level of a drive, for example C:\, right-click the drive, and then click on
  Restore previous versions.

To delete those duplicate photos, we suggest that you visit
Microsoft Store and check for available 3rd party app for it.

Windows 10 Photos App Not Displaying all Photos and Folders

I've been trying to research this issue and have tried a number of fixes. Here is the situation:

• I am using a network drive for my photos
• "Collection" will not show all of my photos - many are missing.
• If I go to "Folders" view:
  • Some will show only a subset of the photos.
  • Others will not show any photos at all.
  • Several folders don't show up at all (yet if I search for them in the search bar, they do)
• If in Windows Explorer I click on any of the missing photos or folders, they all open with no issues with the photos App

I have tried a number of fixes:

• I have used the windows app troubleshooter
• I reset the photos app
• I have added and removed the folders in the photos app settings
• I uninstalled and re-installed the photos app
• I "refreshed" folders within the app
• I changed permissions for the photos folder
  • Added SYSTEM to all sub-folders and files

In all I have spent hours trying to get this to work - and its not. I really want to use the photos app to manage my extensive library of family photos. Any other suggestions to get this to work? Is this a known issue with Windows 10 Photos App?
