Windows 10: Missing policies tab for external Hard drives

I have two external HD's that have a missing policies tab Found article on how to find it but in doing so as suggested there is no policy tabs. How to manage disk write caching for external storage on Windows 10 | Windows Central I have two mercury elite pro hard external hard drives. My internal HD same issue. Edit: I found in the lower section of the device manager if I right click on properities I will then get the policies tab. (Solved)

External Hard Drive

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

External hard drive not recognised

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.

 

Windows 10 does not give me the option to eject external hard drives

[Answering for anyone else who finds themself here, like me, and wondering the same thing!!]

If your tabs include the others but they are missing the Policies tab, look at bottom left of the pop-up and click on Change Settings. The policies tab will then appear.

And for others, to get to this particular Properties pop-up window, you need to right-click over your portable hard drive name in file manager, select Properties. Then select the Hardware tab. Find the name of your portable hard drive in the Hardware list,
highlight it, and click on Properties at bottom right of the pop-up.
