Windows 10: Missing previous storage space on omen laptop after usb recovery

please, god, help. :”]context: my omen laptop was bricked long story; the HD60 S+ capture card i bought stuck it in a startup bsod loop, and i failed to fix it with the command prompt, and i ended up rebooting it via a usb. it’s not at all what it was like when i first got it, but i figured i could just reinstall the omen gaming hub. i had a bit over 400 gb of overall storage on it before it died on me, but now… i’ve got nothing? after loading it from the usb, i don’t even have the original 26 gb, as it says it’s unusable. i haven’t removed anything from inside of the pc. how do i fix this?

I can't recall seeing anything like this before, although various issues related to Storage Spaces have been reported.

There is expensive data recovery software available to support Storage Spaces, suggesting a difficulty here. One person suggested these had been found helpful with S. Spaces:

Storage spaces use metadata. I haven't yet found quite how or what this is used for, but it's another possible vulnerability.

This gives a variety of Powershell commands some of which you might use to interrogate your Storage Space to determine more about its status.

Are you using NTFS or ReFS?

The most basis seems to be simple, and NTFS- whilst the others provide some protection and resiliency.

I think elementary drive failure has been pretty much ruled out.

Bottom Line
A few people who've used this and had problems have vowed 'never again'.

You don't show a screenshot, so I am uncertain to which part of the process of creating a storage space you are referring. I pointed you to the tutorials. I now provide you with a screenshot of part of one of them, which shows a warning which might be what you are referring to.





Your question about double storage / redundancy appears to relate to the normal operation of storage spaces once configured, so seems obscure.

My impression is that few here have used storage spaces.

erase previous version of windows to create space

Perform the steps to delete previous version of windows :-

• 
  In the search box on the taskbar, type settings, then choose it from the list of results.
  
• 
  Select System > Storage > This PC and then scroll down the list and choose Temporary file
  
• Under Remove temporary files, select the Previous version of Windows check box and then choose Remove files.
