  1. Missing System Reserved Partition after hard drive failure, cannot install Windows Updates.

When I first upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I chose a dual boot option and placed the new OS on a new SSD. I was unaware at the time that both operating systems were sharing the same System Reserved Partition on the old HDD. About six months ago the HDD failed and I replaced it with a new one to use as a data drive. The computer still boots into Windows 10 just fine but now it can't complete update installs as the SRP is missing. What I've tried:Automatic Startup Repair from bootable media fails outright and goes back to troubleshooting menu.Created 500MB partition from raw space on new

"Windows 10 couldn't be installed - we could update the system reserved partition"

I think you mean "could not update", not "could".

    Suggestions:

    • Disconnect any other hard drives.
    • Run chkdsk /f on the System Reserved partition. You'll have to do this from the CMD prompt in Repair Mode.
    • Initially there were reports of some System Reserved partitions being too small for the upgrade. Search for details if the first two suggestions fail.

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

  4. Missing System Reserved Partition after hard drive failure, cannot install Windows Updates.

We couldn't update the system reserved partition - Windows 10 1803 Updates won't install

The usual suggestion is to clean it out.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3086249/we-couldn-t-update-system-reserved-partition-error-installing-windows

Are you implying DISM is showing a message about bootmgr? What is the message exactly? You may need to use a different DISM syntax and point to a /source:

Otherwise it may be bogus. For a possibly related incident see

What are the details for that?
