Windows 10: Misstyped my password when setting up my new computer.

I feel really, really dumb posting this, but I need an answer.

While I was setting up my password for my new computer this morning I typed it wrong... and apparently the same wrong way in the confirmation.... now I cannot set up my Microsoft account or even create a password reset disk because it requires the current users password in order to do it!

Geek squad is not an option. I just want to know how I can fix it myself. There has to be a way!

Microsoft Password Default

When starting/restarting my computer, my Password was automatically set up so that it did not have to ask for my Password.

I recently changed my Password.

Now whenever I start up, I have to key in my new Password.

How can I make my new Password the default again?

 

A reinstall would start from square one.

 

Can you log in to your computer with the local account you created? If so, and it is an administrator account, from an elevated command prompt ("Run as administrator" command prompt) use:
net user user_name new_password

So if the user name was John, it would be "net user John ThisIsMyNewPassword"

The user name will be the same one that the folder for the account is named under C:\Users

 

Right click on Start menu icon -> Computer Management under System Tools -> Local Users and Groups/Users folder and see what you can do...*Smile

P S: You can add/remove password of a specific account by right click on it ->Set Password...

 

You can also use Linux to clear the password via a live disk with chntpw command. You can then login to Windows without having to enter a password and can create a new one via Windows settings. I haven't tried it on Win10 yet.
