MMC could not create snap-in file in backup history file

Hello, Weekly Windows 10 backups have been done on an external disk, until it had a fatal hardware error. Switched backups to hard drive D and backups are working fine. However, I noticed that when I access the backup history file, to delete previous backups, there is a message that reads: MMC could not create a snap-in file, specifically "Element not found." Have run sfc /scannow and health & Restore for DISM. No integrity violations. Contacted Microsoft tech support chat. Was asked to re-install Windows 10 to resolve problem. The result is the same, the problem remains. I am not that

MMC - Could not create the Snap-in

Having Windows 10 Version 1703 64-based on a HP Laptop.

Tried to install gpedit.msc, but continuously have error message

'MMC could not create the snap-in'

    with 'CLSID: {8FCOB734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}'

Have tried trolling Google with all suggestions

    1) sfc /scannow - with no issues found

    2) MMC could not create the snap-in - Google Suche

    3) https://blog.multiplay.co.uk/2013/1...reate-snap-in-for-group-policy-object-editor/

    4) http://computerstepbystep.com/group_policy_windows_xp.html

    5) How To Fix MMC Could Not Create The Snap-in

Where one suggests to delete the 'CLSID: {8FCOB734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}' in the registry to create a new clsid on reboot/restart, I cannot delete it as it returns as an error.

Have installed the gpedit.msc on my Tablet with no issues with same gpedit download.

    Any clues

    File History not running

MMC could not create snap-in file in backup history file [IMG]

    Greetings,

I already tried asking this in Microsoft Answers. I see someone else has this problem.

How do I get File History to run automatically? I can get it to run once by clicking Settings > Update & Security > Backup > More options > Back up now. Turning it off and then on again doesn't help.

Settings shows the drive letter H: listing twice, which is weird.

A tutorial says you can reset File History without losing data. This is not the case. After resetting it I lost my settings. The data was still there, but clicking "Backup up now" begins backing up everything to a separate folder.

When I click Control Panel > System and Security > File History > Advanced settings > Open File History event logs to view recent events or errors, I get an error message saying:

    End Snap-in
    This snap-in is not responding.
To return to MMC and check the status of the snap-in, click Cancel.
If you choose to end the snap-in immediately, you will lose any unsaved
data. To end the snap-in now, click End Now.

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Shane.
