Windows 10: Modern Setup Host high disk usage - Windows 10

Since 8:30 this morning, Modern Setup Host has been taking 99-100% of disk usage. That's 5 hours. I cannot work.


Why can't Microsoft update at night when I am not using my laptop? Why do you start this at 8:30, just when I need to start working? Are you trying to destroy people's productivity?


Why can't I schedule the time for Windows updates to run?


How long will Modern Setup Host be shutting me out of using my laptop?


This is really aggravating.

Regarding your concern with the deleted Modern Setup Host file, we’d like to ask the following questions so we can isolate it at the same time:

• What particular action that you’re trying to perform at the time that it was accidentally deleted.?
• May we know where and how it was deleted on your computer?
  
• Were you able to check if the deleted file can be found in the
  Recycle bin?

As an initial step, we suggest that perform a DISM command. This will help repairing possible system file corruptions. Follow these steps:

• Type command in the search box.
• Right-click on the result and select Run as administrator.
• Type this command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
• Press Enter.
• Close the Command Prompt windows and check if changes were made related to the Modern Setup Host file.

We'll wait for your update after trying the steps.

UPDATE:

I performed all of the steps (no issues found, BTW) & Modern Setup Host is still an issue pushing disk usage to 100% ! The only change on the Lenovo was the update from MS.

(Method 1: Use the System File Checker and the inbox Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. This will help you scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To
run it:

• Select Start Windows logo Start button, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command
  Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
• Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").
• Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Modern Setup Host is an installer located in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\folder, which runs as a scheduled task every time a user logs in, to execute a process with the local
user’s privileges within the context of its parent windowsstoresetupbox.exe.

Too many programs running on your computer all at the same time is one of the possible causes why your computer becomes sluggish and producing a high CPU usage.

To help you resolve your concern, kindly follow these steps:

• Perform a clean boot. It helps eliminate software conflict. Here's the

• Delete unnecessary files by performing a Disk cleanup. You may refer to this
  link.
• Optimize your Startup programs. Open Taskbar> Startup tab>Disable all the unnecessary startup programs.
