    Modify Apps Question

    Hello,

I'm new to Windows 10 Pro (1903) from Windows 7, and have what may be a basic (or stupid *Wink) question...I searched online for an answer and surprisingly found nothing, so I thought I'd ask here. In the Settings Apps & Features, I clicked on an app and have two choices, Modify or Uninstall. What does clicking on the Modify button do? All it did for me was I saw a small working blue circle for a few seconds and then nothing seemed to happen or change. What did I just do to the app?

The app was Edge browser, in case that is needed to know...I was looking for some options to not have my system open to it when I click on MS help links - I have another browser set as my default and would rather those links open to that browser. This sort of morphs into a second question as to how to stop MS help links taking you to Edge browser and not your default browser. Not sure if I need to start a new thread for that question, but that's why I clicked the Modify button so I could see if I could change that behavior.

    Thanks!
    Mel

    :)

    Illogical date modified updating

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the modified date is just as important as the created date within the metadata of a given file. We will look into this for you.
However, in order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    1. What is the build of Windows 10 running on your system?
    2. Was there any major change or an update on your system prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?
    3. Is the issue only with the pictures taken from the camera or the other pictures and files within the system as well?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it is helpful to you.

Method 1: Enable the Date Modified Column in the File Explorer.

To enable the Date modified column within the particular folder, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open the Folder in which you wish to see the Date modified column.
    2. Right-click on the
Header for Name, date, type etc. This will give you a list of columns that can be displayed.
    3. Select the option Date modified, clearing the tick removes that column.
    4. Modify a file and check if it is being reflected in the Date modified column.

If the issue still persists, where you aren’t able to see the value in the Date modified column even after making the changes to the particular file, please follow ‘Method 2’.

Method 2: Create a new user account.

This issue could be due to profile corruption. Hence to eliminate possibilities, I would suggest you to ‘Create
a local user or administrator account
’ and check if the issue persists.

    Note:
You will not see all your files under your default file location. So your data will be saved under C:\users\user_name.

    We await your response.

    Modify Apps Question

Now that's service! Two replies within a short time period of asking a question. Love it, and thank you! *Smile

hsehestedt, thank you for the welcome and for your explanation! That is great to know...I actually was wondering about that when I installed a program and decided against doing everything with the install, and I had wondered how to get those things if I wanted them later. As far as an example of a MS help link...for instance, if you are in Settings > Apps & Features, at the bottom of the right side it says, "Have a Question?", and below that there are links that help answer some common questions related to the Settings page you are on. I've been clicking on those a lot lately - lol. Denis answered my question on that though.

Denis, thank you for the welcome and for the info on my MS Edge question! I hadn't yet done a search for that on the forums...interesting no solution was found on that, but I can live with it. Maybe someday someone will figure out a way, or MS will let us change that (ha! though you never know *Wink). I did see the tutorial section and had gone into the Apps & Features, but didn't readily see anything that addressed what I was asking about for Modify, but I'll definitely be looking more at those tutorials as I get to know Win10 better and have questions.
