Windows 10: Mom needs help! How to extend GPT partition in order to be up to date with Microsoft Windows 10

I am not a computer science person. I'm just an everyday mom who uses a computer.


The latest windows 10 update is giving me trouble. I get the error message "We couldn't update the system reserve partition."




So, I look online for solutions. People say you need more space. Go to disk management and extend the partition space. Everything needed within Microsoft's Disk Management tool is greyed out, and cannot be used.








I watch youtube videos. MiniTool Partition Wizard is recommended. Issues that come up:


Some say this cannot be accomplished if the partition is a "GPT" partition. Mine is GPT.


They also say you must have space directly to the right of the partition that needs more space. When I attempt to use MiniTool Partition Wizard, besides noticing that I have GPT partitions, I also notice there is a full partition in between the system partition, the unallocated 500 MB and the rest of my C: drive.


I look up ways to extend a GPT partition. Someone recommends AOMEI partition assistant. I try that. It won't let me do anything either. You can see there is a full partition between the system partition and the unallocated 500MB.





So what do I do? I want my computer to be protected by the latest updates, but I cannot find anywhere how to extend my system partition. If I completely reinstall Windows onto my C: will that take care of the problem? Or, will it just use the partitions that already exist?

Help on Partition 1TB HDD into GPT format

Hi people, I am planning to convert a 1TB hdd into GPT format. Here's how I want to partition the disk: 450MB for WinRE, 100MB for EFI, 128MB for MSR, 5GB for Recovery, 100GB for windows and then the rest are for more partitions.
My question here, are these partion sizes okay for an UEFI Windows 10 installation? Especially, I cannot be sure how large the Recovery and WinRE, partitions should be. So some advice would be helpful.

I'd be glad to help you.

When you start an operating system from a GPT disk, the Extended Firmware Interface (EFI)-based BIOS is required. We cannot guaranty that converting partition using third party software might work or not.

Booting from GPT is only supported for 64 bit editions of Windows on UEFI based systems.
