  1. monitor and PC are not entering sleep/standby

I am using Windows 11 Pro and I set my monitor to go off after 5 minutes and the computer after 15 minutes. The problem is that after 5 minutes the monitor tries to enters briefly in standby but immediately turn on again.Something is keeping my monitor or PC to enter sleep mode. I suspect some device connected to my PC.The question is how to determine what is keeping my PC from entering sleep mode? Please don't suggest me to reinstall Windows, this is a fresh installation. I would like to know how to use the many Windows diagnostic tools to determine what is keep my PC from entering sleep.

  2. How do I re-enable my modern standby sleep mode (S0)?

Modern standby (S0) is indeed designed to allow for faster wake times, which can be convenient for many users. However, one drawback is that it doesn't allow the PC to fully shut down, which means it may continue consuming some power even when in sleep mode. Additionally, some users have reported issues with laptops becoming excessively hot when placed in their backpacks while in modern standby mode.

On the other hand, S3 sleep mode is a deeper sleep state where the system is essentially powered down, resulting in lower power consumption. While wake times may be slightly longer compared to modern standby, S3 can be preferable for those who prioritize power efficiency and want to ensure their laptop doesn't generate excess heat during periods of inactivity. Here are the steps to enable Modern standby:

    1. Open Registry Editor:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    2. Navigate to the Power Settings:
      • In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:

    3. Modify the Registry Key:
      • Look for the PlatformAoAcOverride key.
      • If it exists, right-click on it and select Delete.
      • If it does not exist, you can skip this step.
    4. Enable Modern Standby:
      • Open an elevated Command Prompt (right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator").
      • Enter the following command to delete the registry entry that disables Modern Standby:

    5. Restart Your Computer:
      • Restart your computer to apply the changes.

Verify Modern Standby (S0) is Enabled

    1. Open Command Prompt:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Run Power Configuration Command:
      • Type the following command and press Enter:

      • This command will list the available sleep states. Look for "Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)" to confirm that Modern Standby is enabled.
Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!

modern standby problems entering to sleep

    Laptop Dell XPS 7590 Windows 10 2004build.

I press the power button, laptop starts going to sleep, then if i was lucky enough when i close the lid after some time laptop stops responding to ping.

But in most cases laptop just not going to sleep at all. Then if i look to event viewer i see events:

Event 506: The system is entering connected standby

    Reason: Power Button.

Event 507: The system is exiting connected standby

    Reason: Lid.

Event 506: The system is entering connected standby

    Reason: Lid.

Event 507: The system is exiting connected standby

    Reason: Input Keyboard.

Interesting thing, event shows that was keyboard input, but how this could happen if the lid was closed, and i was closing it gently.

And i can not disable modern standby, cause it is a new "feature", so hibernate is the only choice ????

HP 27ec Monitor Keeps Continuously Waking from Standby After Computer Sleeps Automatically

Hi I have an odd situation. When my laptop sleeps automatically after a period of inactivity, the HP 27ec monitor will enter standby mode, make the device connect/disconnect sound, then wake back up, enter standby mode again, and continue ad infinitum. The laptop does not do the same on another monitor, so the issue is isolated to the monitor. Also another laptop plugged into the same monitor doesn't have the same issue. And if the computer is slept manually the issue doesn't occur. The computer is an Acer Aspire E5-575G. Things I have tried:

    1. disable usb selective suspend and link state power management
    2. use DDU to uninstall display drivers then install new ones
    3. install the chipset drivers
    4. unplug all external devices
    5. browse through all settings on the monitor to see if any are wrongly configured
    6. run nirsoft usbdeview to see if any devices are connected/disconnected
    7. use a different hdmi port on the back of the monitor
    8. use a different hdmi cable
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
