Monitor colors wrong for SOME apps

I recently purchased a ViewSonic 4K monitor (VX4380). I have an EliteBook x360 1030 3G laptop. It uses an Intel UHD Graphics 620 card.

For some strange reason, SOME (but not all - or even most) of the apps on the monitor display the wrong colors. When I drag certain applications to the monitor, after about half of the window shows up on the new monitor, the color switches. Blues become green. Golds become pink and vice versa. (Note that the color on the ViewSonic monitor is correct until most of the window is dragged onto it. There is a very obvious switch so it has to be software as opposed to color settings on the monitor.)

I was able to resolve the issue in Chrome by disabling Chrome's hardware acceleration setting. However, Microsoft Teams and Skype both have the same behavior. So far, those are the only apps affected. Everything else is fine. Because disabling the hardware acceleration settings in Chrome fixed the issue for that app and most apps are fine, I suspect that it's only affecting apps that make use of hardware acceleration. (I don't know that for certain.) I also suspect that it's some kind of glitch in the way the graphics driver interacts with the monitor driver such that, when hardware acceleration is used, the blue and green channels are swapped. Again, I don't know this for certain but it *appears* to be what's happening.

I've never run into an issue before where color problems on a specific monitor didn't affect all the apps. This seems very specific. I'd love to test this theory a little more, but I don't know of any way to disable hardware acceleration altogether to see if it resolves the issue. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or at least do some additional testing?

    :)

    Windows Color Management Issue

    Hi billin30,

With the issue you're having with your display color, I suggest that you calibrate. There may have been settings that is causing the issue and resetting them may solve this. Follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows key on your keyboard, type Calibrate display color.
    2. Follow the on screen instructions.
If the issue will not somehow improve, try to check with your monitor's color settings just to be sure.

Also, I'd like to clarify what monitor is having the issue with its display going to the 'other monitor'? I'd also like to ask for help in isolating the issue. Try to use the monitors one-by-one or have them pair up with one another. Like have BenQ paired
with Asus then have Alienware paired with Asus etc.

Update me if there were improvements.

  3. Color Management of external monitor Windows 10 not permanent

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per your query, I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

First connect the secondary monitor and then run the color calibration tool. Then with the secondary monitor connected, follow these steps:

    a) Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.

    b) Change the view by option on the right top to large icons.

    c) Click on Color Management.

    d) Against device, select the secondary monitor and check, "use my settings for this device".

    e) In the bottom, highlight a profile and select "set as default profile".

Save changes and check if the issue persists. Let us know the results for further assistance.

lost red color on my computer monitor

    Hi Yanjun,

Color calibration is something the operating system can't accurately do automatically. To make sure that your monitor is set to display the most accurate colors, you may use the built-in Display Color Calibration utility. Here's how:

    • Go to Settings > System > Display.
    • Scroll down to the very bottom, then click Display adapter properties.
    • Select the Color Management tab, then click Color Management (...).
    • Select the Advanced tab then click Calibrate display.
    • This will start the Display Color Calibration wizard. If you are new to calibrating your monitor’s color, click the
How do I calibrate my display? link for more information.
    • Click Next to begin adjustment.
    • The wizard will now walk you through the steps to access the on-screen display menu on your monitor to set specific color settings.

Remember that changes made through the display menu will be kept even if you click
Cancel. However, if you're not happy with the new settings, you can revert the changes manually, or reset your display to the default settings.

Let us know how it goes.
