  2. How can I change my external monitor refresh rate to 120 hz or higher ?

    Hello Ahmed Yousfi,

Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

Firstly, could you let me know the specific system version? You can check it by pressing the Win key + R key, and typing "winver", then press Enter, please take a screenshot/photo of it, and only send the relevant information without PII in the next reply.

Based on available information, you may be using HDMI version 1.2 to connect your computer and monitor, as this version of HDMI cable supports up to 60Hz, as shown in the following information. You can find the relevant information on your cable, which will usually have a version mark, or you can consult the after-sales service of the purchase channel of the product.

    • HDMI 1.0 - HDMI 1.2: These early versions of HDMI support a maximum resolution of 1920x1080p (Full HD) and a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. They also support 8-bit color depth.
    • HDMI 1.3: HDMI 1.3 introduced higher bandwidth and some new features. It supports a maximum resolution of 2560x1600p (WQXGA) and a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz. Additionally, HDMI 1.3 supports Deep Color technology, which allows for higher color depths such as 10-bit or 12-bit.
    • HDMI 1.4: HDMI 1.4 adds new features on top of HDMI 1.3. It supports a maximum resolution of 4096x2160p (4K) and a maximum refresh rate of 30 Hz. For lower resolutions like 1080p, HDMI 1.4 supports a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. Furthermore, HDMI 1.4 introduces Ethernet communication and 3D video support.
    • HDMI 2.0: HDMI 2.0 is a newer version of HDMI with higher bandwidth and enhanced features. It supports a maximum resolution of 3840x2160p (4K) and a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. HDMI 2.0 also supports higher color depths such as 10-bit, 12-bit, or 16-bit. Additionally, it provides high dynamic range (HDR) and increased audio transmission bandwidth.
    • HDMI 2.1: HDMI 2.1 is the latest version of HDMI, introducing higher bandwidth and some new features. It supports a maximum resolution of 7680x4320p (8K) and a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. Moreover, HDMI 2.1 offers increased frame rate support, such as a maximum of 120 Hz at 4K resolution or 240 Hz at 1080p resolution. It also supports dynamic HDR, enhanced audio transmission, and other advanced features.
Or you can try a different HDMI cable.

If anything is unclear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  3. How can I change my external monitor refresh rate to 120 hz or higher ?

    Hello,

I have an asus TUF 15 laptop With a 144 hz monitor

I bought a 165 hz monitor n plugged it in using an HDMI cable, the problem is that the external monitor only displays 60 hz limit in windows display settings even in the display adapters modes the highest refresh rate for 1920x1080 resolution is 60 hz

meanwhile in the intel graphics command center, it shows that the monitor can go up to 120 hz using this cable and all

I tried updating the graphics cards drivers and everything is still the same

So, how can I fix this problem please

by the way the main laptop monitor shows 144 hz refresh rate so the problem here is the external monitor and windows settings towards it

  4. Monitor doesnt work after restarting with higher hz

Windows locks hz to all monitors if animations

Upon further checking on your concern, this is a design limitation as Windows tries to sync both monitors. It treats both monitors as 1, thus it drops the FPS on the 144 HZ monitor.

We suggest that you can submit this issue using the feedback application on your computer.

    Regards.
