Windows 10: Monitor on laptop not working?

So I have been using an Inspiron 5759 for about half a year now. It was a gift from my brother who had been using it for a while, so I don't want to replace it, but I've noticed an issue. I'm not very techy, so I'm not very good if it comes to replacing the insides, but my issue is that it shows the startup screen, but then just goes black. Now, what confuses me is that despite it going black, I can still see the screen being displayed on a different monitor. Any ideas what the issue is?

• Did you check if the external monitor work fine with other systems?

To check if there is any issues with HDMI cable or external monitor, I suggest you to try connecting it to any other Laptop/Computer and check if this works fine.
