    monitor & OS

I bought a Dell monitor about a month ago. It seems to be plug and play but there are no instructions. I read the online manual but it was not a lot of help.
I mistakenly assumed, as it was new, that it was compatible with Windows 10.
There were no operating systems listed on or in the box. I just checked out trouble shooting at the Dell site b/c of a very slight flicker or stutter when I open or close a window. It is hardly noticeable and does not always occur.
I read that this Dell Monitor model is compatible or supports up to 8.1. It lists 7, 8, 8.1 but not 10.
I guess that means I could not download a driver as I run Windows 10 pro x 64. If I get a new PC I will likely have the same problem.
I guess they are unloading their old inventory. You would think there would be a list of OS's if they were significant.
Do you think they make a monitor for Windows 10 specifically , or that 8.1 & 10 work one as good as the other?

    :)

  3. Extended Monitor Issue

I have a Dell-Inspiron Tower, the Intel Core i5 12GB/ 2TB. It came with the Windows 8.1 OS. Then I upgraded to Windows 10 OS (which I love). I have 2 Dell Monitors connected to the tower & a TV connected to the tower using an HDMI cable. Everything
    is new.

Now, before upgrading to Windows 10 OS, the 2 monitors & TV worked just fine, until I upgraded to Windows 10 OS. It detects the TV off & on. There are times where I have to reset the tower 1 - 2 times for it to detect the TV. And there are some times
where it will not detect the TV at all. To me it seems to be a glitch in the new Windows 10 OS.....or could be a bad HDMI cable & it's just a coincidence that this is happening at the same time I upgraded to Windows 10 OS.

If anyone has an idea on how to fix this issue, I would appreciate it. I need this fix because I work from home & all 3 screens needs to be working because it is very beneficial to do my job well.

    Thank-you.

  4. monitor & OS

It doesn't matter about OS, monitors are monitors and work on everything IF they have a VGA, DVI, and/or HDMI, they will work with any OS and any computer with those attachments.

There are really no compatibility issues between the OS and monitors. Virtually any monitor will work with any OS. Virtually any monitor built in the 21st century, and many older, will be plug and play and will tell the OS everything it needs to know about it. No special drivers needed. Old plug and play CRT monitors (those that are still working) built long before Windows 10 was conceived will work with no issues.

OS has nothing to do with monitors. Like TVs, you can connect a bluray player, an android box, chromecast, a PC, a smartphone or a raspberry pi and it will just work like the way it should.

I am very glad to hear that as I did not want to exchange this one.
I was thrown off when the manual said it was made for 7-8.1.
I always thought it did not matter b/c my daughter gave me a 5 year old monitor once that played till it died.
Now I still have find why it slightly flickers upper left when closing. I have re seated RAM in pairs, re seated the video card, tested RAM, blown all dust out and set the monitor to factory settings. This is the 2nd monitor of it kind as I thought the flickering was it. So I doubt it is the monitor. Maybe the card is going but it tests OK. Would an ailing hard drive cause this?
Thank you for confirming the compatibility.

If you have a 2nd PC, try testing your new monitor with it. Or try a different cable. If it has the same issue, it probably is defective.

When you say defective, are you referring to the monitor? I have tried new cables. This is the second exact monitor and most techs have agreed it is likely not the monitor. Two of the same in a row would be a rather large coincidence and it has passed all diagnostics..
I may remove my card and run in on board environment.
How sure are you the monitor is defective? I am open to all opinions.

I didn't say I am "sure" the monitor is defective. I recommended some tests for you to try that may suggest if the monitor is defective or not.

Thanks badrobot, I will continue to see what I can find out. The very slight flickering is not enough to warrant big changes but if a tweak helped it would be nice.
The trouble is I am running out of ideas. *Confused

I just checked devices and printers in the control panel and it says the monitor in analog.
Is this a conflict with VGA and will it be with DVI should I upgrade the PC?

No need to upgrade PC, I use a DVI-I to VGA adapter and works great. VGA is fine, or you could get a DVI-I to VGA adapter for like $10 and try that instead. But VGA is analog, that's why it is saying that.

So if I get a now PC I will go DVI to DVI - I guess i could do it now with a new cable as I have a DVI port. It has 24 pins a space then 4 pins at the PC.
