    Hello,

    So I've had this small issue. I have a relatively old monitor Philips that I got from a friend, so I can hook it up to my laptop HP Pavillion using a VGA to HDMI adapter. So the first day I connected the two together, it worked perfectly and there was no issue. Then I played around a bit with basic settings on colour etc and still worked fine. The next day I unplug it and plug it back in, this time the computer is aware that there is a Monitor connected and it cycles through options such as 'extend' and 'duplicate display', but the external monitor has a black screen and tells me that there is no input.

    I have followed some instructions from your community. I checked all the drivers and updated them, as well as PnP drivers re-installed. I had got a different cable and a new adapter and this was not the issue. The most recent step was to use 'Driver Verifier' as suggested by someone and send over some minidump files to you after the procedure.

    Can you help me identify the issue and fix it?

    'Generic PnP monitor' issue

    Hello Angelica,

    I would suggest you follow steps to update the monitor driver:

    Press Windows + X keys

    Choose Device manager

    Click on Monitors

    Right click on ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and click on update driver

    Tap on Browse my computer for driver software

    Tap on Let me pick from a list of available drivers

    Choose ‘Generic PnP monitor’ and tap on Next

    When you are done please restart the computer.

    Generic PNP monitor

    Hello,

    I use a CAD program that apparently has a problem with my ASUS 4K monitor. Seems I've tried every which way to get Window to recognize my monitor but, all I get is . . generic PnP monitor with an old 2006 driver. I've downloaded the current monitor
    but, Windows won't use it.

    Gone through a number of help suggestions including disconnecting the monitor, reconnecting, re-starts, delete driver, re-install . . .llllllll

    Any advice would be most welcome.
