Windows 10: Monitor screen is all black when it goes over 120hz while having a 144hz monitor.

This is my first time posting here,So i bought a ucb c to a HDMI adapter for my Asus ROG laptop. This adapter works fine if you limit the monitors refresh rate to 120. When i try to go to 144hz my monitor screen is all black and goes on stand-by later on. My laptop is on windows 10 at the latest version. All my drivers are up to date as well according to MyASUS, NVIDIA GeForce Experience and windows updates. I tried to swap HDMI cables but this didn't work. I also restarted my laptop multiple times when making changes to see the result and nothing changed. I also reinstalled the NVIDIA drive

Can't choose 120hz

Hey I have a 144hz screen monitor and a HDMI cable that should be able to transfer 120hz correct but i can still not choose in the alternatives "120hz"

I understand that you are using a monitor that supports 144Hz, however you getting black screen after the sign in page.

As per the information provided by you, I have checked that the monitor supports 144Hz. However, the Sapphire RX 570 graphics card that you are using supports only up to 120Hz using the display ports. Please refer the graphic card
specification by clicking on
Sapphire RX 570.



I suggest you to set the refresh rate for the monitor at 120Hz and check the result.



Follow these steps to change the refresh rate of the monitor.

1. Press Windows key + I.
   This will open Settings.
   
2. Click on System.
   
3. Click on Display.
   
4. Click on Advanced display settings.
   
5. Click on Display adapter properties for Samsung monitor.
   
6. Click on Monitor tab.
   
7. Under Monitor Settings, use the drop-down menu to select the refresh rate and change it to 120Hz.
   
8. Click on Apply button.
   
9. Click on OK button.
