Monitor usually runs at 165Hz, but is now only letting me run 120 Hz

2 weeks ago I noticed that my games weren't looking as sharp as usual and it felt a bit off. I later discovered that my monitor was now displaying 120Hz instead of the usual 165Hz. I've checked the Nvidia driver, settings, device manager, everything, and nothing has the option of 165Hz + 1440p. This had happened before, but it was a long time ago and from what I remember, one day when checking the settings the option for 165 Hz appeared. So far, no such luck, and it's driving me insane. Any help to go back to those silky smooth frames would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

144Hz and 165Hz are no longer available on brand new monitor

I received an Acer Nitro RG241Y monitor (Full HD 65Hz) and tested it extensively this afternoon, and 144Hz was working just fine over HDMI from my laptop with an Intel Xe Graphics (core i5 11th gen) GPU. Then I moved the monitor to my bedroom desk and for some reason it's now limited to 120Hz, as 144 and 165 Hz are missing from Windows Settings and Intel control panel. I tested different cables (including the one that came with the monitor), both HDMI 2.0 inputs and nothing, it's capped at 120Hz now. I know 165Hz will usually only work over DisplayPort, but it was still supposed to show on the refresh rate list. Any idea on what might have caused 144 and 165Hz to be AWOL after turning off the monitor and moving it to another room? Does anyone know how to get these refresh rates back? Is it a graphics driver or Windows bug? Here are screenshots where 1080p144Hz and 1080p165Hz are listed as supported modes on Intel graphics panel, but are missing from refresh rate dropdown list. Like I said, both rates were available earlier today and at least 144Hz was working.

Windows locks hz to all monitors if animations

Hi, I and many others have a problem with our monitor hz with Windows 10, we have had this since Windows 10 got released and i think it was in windows 8 too.

So I have 3 monitor 2 60hz monitors and 1 165hz monitor. Whenever something is moving/or animated on either of my 60hz monitors it turns my 165hz monitor down to 60 hz.

Here is a video that are showing the issue:

Is there a solution to this, so it doesn't turn my hz down when multitasking?

To replicate this problem, I play games inn borderless mode on my 165hz and look at videos at the same time, move explorer windows and such on my 60hz. I also tested it with vsyncteste.com that show the hz of the monitor you have it on.

    Update:

From what I have been able to gather is that DWM.exe(Desktop Window Manager) do force double or triple buffering vsync and could be the cause of this problem.

  4. Monitor usually runs at 165Hz, but is now only letting me run 120 Hz

How can I change my external monitor refresh rate to 120 hz or higher ?

    Hello,

I have an asus TUF 15 laptop With a 144 hz monitor

I bought a 165 hz monitor n plugged it in using an HDMI cable, the problem is that the external monitor only displays 60 hz limit in windows display settings even in the display adapters modes the highest refresh rate for 1920x1080 resolution is 60 hz

meanwhile in the intel graphics command center, it shows that the monitor can go up to 120 hz using this cable and all

I tried updating the graphics cards drivers and everything is still the same

So, how can I fix this problem please

by the way the main laptop monitor shows 144 hz refresh rate so the problem here is the external monitor and windows settings towards it
