Hello!I have recently in the last few weeks, have had an issue where all my monitors 3 go black while gaming. I will still be able to hear discord for a few seconds, and then only the background noise of whatever game I am playing at the time. It just goes on for a while and I have to hard reboot it. I can tell that my PC is still responsive to commands since I have tried resetting the graphics driver using the keyboard ctrl+shift+windows+B and even managed to turn it off using the keyboard. Length of time before crashing is entirely random, sometimes very short and sometimes a few hour

    :)

  2. Every once in a while I hear the "Windows Background" sound out of nowhere. (win 11)

    Hello, FelipeNachmanowicz

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

There could be a number of reasons why you’re hearing the “Windows Background” sound randomly.

    1. Notification sounds: Ensure that no application or system event is triggering the Windows Background sound as a notification sound. You can check the settings in Windows Settings > System > Notifications or in Windows Settings > System > Sound > More Sound Settings (under "Advanced") > Sounds.
    2. Software conflicts: Sometimes, certain software or programs running in the background can trigger sounds unintentionally. Check if you have any recently installed applications or utilities that might be responsible for the random sound by performing a clean boot. These steps might look complicated at first glance, but following them in order, step-by-step, will help you get you back on track.
    3. Keyboard shortcuts: Windows provides keyboard shortcuts to play sounds. It's possible that you accidentally press a combination of keys that triggers the Windows Background sound. Be aware of your keyboard usage and see if the sound coincides with any keystrokes you make.
    4. Malware or unwanted software: Conduct a thorough scan of your computer using a reputable antivirus or anti-malware software to ensure there are no malicious programs causing the random sound.
If you still can't find the root cause, the Windows Event Viewer can provide insight into any system events that might be triggering the sound. Open Event Viewer by searching for it in the Start menu or by pressing Windows Key + R and typing "eventvwr.msc". Look for any relevant events or errors that coincide with the times you hear the sound.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards

  3. Monitors go black, can still hear background noise, sometimes have to hard reboot - Only while gaming

    Hello!

I have recently ( in the last few weeks), have had an issue where all my monitors (3) go black while gaming. I will still be able to hear discord for a few sconds, and then only the background noise of whatever game I am playing at the time. Sometimes it reboots on its own (which creates a dump), sometimes it just goes on for a while and I have to hard reboot it. I can tell that my PC is still responsive to commands since I have tried resetting the graphics driver using the keyboard (ctrl+shift+windows+B). Length of time before crashing is entierly random, sometimes very short and sometimes a few hours.

    Specs:

    • Windows 10 Home
    • CPU: Ryzen 9 3950x
    • GPU: MSI RTX 3090 trio
    • RAM: Corsair RGB PRO 3600Mhz (2x16)
    • PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum 1300W
    • Motherboard: MPG X670E Carbon max wifi
    • The PSU is brand new (thought it might fix the issue)
    • I used a water cooling loop which is a few month old
    • No OC of any kind
    What I have tried/observed:

    • Windows updated to latest drivers
    • All drivers updated to latest
    • Bios updated to latest
    • Monitored temperatures (more than fine)
    • Stress tested my GPU, CPU, and PSU which all turned out fine
    • Tried clean gpu driver install
    • Tried gpu driver rollback to before the issue
    • Tried various games, happens on any of them
    • Monitored ressources while gaming: GPU is around 90% most of the time and the game is marked very high power usage
    • Have tried removing all usb devices other than mouse and keyboard to see if it was linked to a faulty device (which it wasn't)
    • Tried having only one monitor at a time (tried each, all had the issue after some time).
    • Tried disabling all non-windows services
Here is a link for the few dump files that were created: Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online.

Thank you for your time and help!

    dual monitors stops sound

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

To assist you better, I suggest you to answer the below questions.

    • When will the sound disable, when playing through main monitor or the extended monitor?
    • Did you try enabling the sound from the sound drivers and check if it helps?
    • Since from when are you facing this issue?
This issue causes because the monitor automatically takes the HDMI sound as the Default input. Disable and enable the speakers and check if it helps.

I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Right click on the volume control and then
      Properties
      ,
    • When you connect the HDMI it becomes the default output device, even though it has no speakers.
    • You need to change this back to "Speakers" and set as default.
