Most files created by me show up as "0KB" on quick access despite not being that way

This issue has persisted for months and it's only remained and stayed annoying but files I create/write mainly photo files such as JPG or PNG but also SVG appear as "0KB" when written, it happens alot when written onto my external drive but slightly less if the file is exported to my main drive, the files are not corrupted as they reveal their file sized when interacted with such as opening it via a program that supports it or posting it onto something like a file upload website or discord, even when it displays as 0KB on quick access, the file properties shows the true file size, therefore

    :)

Quick Access shows files (mostly from my external drive) as 0KB?

Most files created by me show up as "0KB" on quick access despite not being that way yoiWSpSkSkL8o1VfZcjIVL9TlF8%2BlVlgMKLJ0yVq6wk%2Fxe85eCRcehpKOJj1%2BxhVFjcTziGqfyrBrkU%2BCR7CM%3D.png

This has been happening a lot, and I decided to bring them to attention, but some files on quick access show up as 0KB despite having data; the 0KB goes away if I open the file with something like a photo viewer. This happens 99% of the time to files and images on my external drive for some reason.

Is this something common or bad?

  3. Quick Access bar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty.

    Remove items from Quick access.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

    • Right click on the file or folder.
    • Select the option “unpin from the quick access”

To pin items to an item already on the quick access bar.

    Follow the below steps.

I would suggest you to create folder in the desktop screen & place all the files or folder which need to pin to the quick access.

    • Open the quick access.
    • Select the Desktop option.
    • Right click on the folder & select the option “pin to quick access”

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

Recent files and folders not showing in Quick access

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are unable to see files and folders under the Quick access section.

The Quick access section will show all the recent files accessed under the recent files section and the most recent folder on the left pane.

As per the screenshot provided by you, I can see that the options are already checked. I suggest you to click on the
Restore Defaults button to restore the settings back to default and check if that helps.

You can also create a new user account and check if the options are working. Follow the steps from the article

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
to create a new user account.

Also, I suggest you to run DISM command to check for system file corruptions and repair them. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run DISM scan:

    1. Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    2. Right click on the Command prompt icon and select
      Run as administrator.
    3. Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
      and press Enter.
    4. Restart the PC.

    Hope it helps.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
