Windows 10: Most of the files in my downloads folder are gone.

Though I've decided that those files weren't important anymore, I want to know what caused it. Unfortunately I can't really restore it to previous versions because the downloads folder didn't have a restore point, neither does the drive. It was almost completely gone, there was almost nothing in the downloads folder except empty folders. I originally though they were corrupted, but after trying to recover it using various recovery programs, it says it's already deleted. This only happened after downloading this one program, however the program came from a believable and known site so I doubt

Downloaded files disappear


When you download a file through any browser, there's an option somewhere to 'Open Containing Folder.'

In Windows, to find a file you have downloaded...

1. Open your personal folder by clicking the Start button and then clicking your user name at the top of the Start menu's right pane.
   
2. Double-click one of the following folders:
   
   • Downloads
     
   • Documents
     
   • Pictures
     
   • Videos
     
   • Music

If you do not see the file you are looking for, but know its file name, you can search for it by following these steps:
To search for a file you have downloaded...

1. Click the Start button
   
2. Type all or part of the file name into the Search box.
   The file you are looking for will appear in the list of results.

 

Lost files download folder

Hello,

I just found out that I've lost all of the files in my download directory. The download folder is still there, but it's empty.

I've also noticed that the shortcut which was named "téléchargements" (named only; it directed to the download folder) did not exist anymore/or had been renamed "downloads".

On searching the files somes of them were still in the shortcut/recent list but they did not lead anywhere. The files were gone.

Recuva located files originally in the download folder but they were for the most part in too poor a condition to be retrieved.

The link "téléchargements" in my user folder was modified 12th january 2017.

I would like to find out what happened ...

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.
