Motherboard Power Still On After Win10 Upgrade

    Hello!

I have a strange issue where after a full shut down in Windows 10, the motherboard is still delivering power to my connected devices such as my headset, keyboard, mouse and monitors i.e. all the lights on these devices are still on, whereas previously in Win7 they would all turn off.

I did an in-place upgrade from Win7-Win10 and adjusted no motherboard BIOS settings.

I've looked through the Win10 power options and can;t see anything relating to keeping devices on after a shut down. I assume this is so USB devices like phones and tablets can charge from USB when the PC is off? However I don;t need this feature if that's the intention.

Any ideas? Is windows 10 (vs win7) sending a different command back to the MB on a shutdown?

    Hardware:
    MB: Asrock P67 Extreme 6
    CPU: Intel 2600k

    :)

Unable to shut down Windows 10

When shutting down Win10 the system powers of, then immediately, within seconds, it restarts. Having to hit the power button to turn it off.

Viewed all posts referring to this issue, but none work.

This issue started after upgrading my motherboard. Been in contact Azus and they indicate it is a problem with Windows.

    Any suggestions?

PC does not switch off after installation of Windows 10

[EDIT: The information below is in reference to after having upgraded to Win10, but may still be relevant to

when the update is in the final stages. This is when it installs drivers, and current updates]

I had this problem with my first Win10 upgrade attempt. It was because of failed auto-updates (three cumulative

updates), that went into a loop - 'Updating' - Updated failed - Uninstalling update'.

Then as the machine rebooted 'updating - updated failed... Yada....

What worked for me was to shut down the PC's power supply and wait for the motherboard to power down

(30 sec or longer) and shut the modem off. This stopped the update cycle and Win10 would reboot again.

Once back into Windows I could reconnect the internet.

    - At the time I also had issues with the Start Menu and Task Bar crashing/locking up now and then.

I gave Win10 away for a couple of weeks and have upgraded to 10 again (I use a separate HDD for the Win10 update

so Win7 cannot get borked in the process). No problems with the Windows updates now.

  4. Motherboard Power Still On After Win10 Upgrade

Some motherboards have a USB power feature even when the computer is switched on.
This sound like your issue. This can be adjusted in the BIOS settings.

Look in the BIOS for an option called EUP Turn it off.
Or maybe ErP Ready. Turn it on.

Edit: One more thought... when you installed the motherboard chipset drivers you may have installed a small program that allows for the charging of USB devices when the PC is off.

Yeah but I didn't change a thing in the bios when I upgraded from 7 to 10. So why would win 10 handle the power on the MB differently to win7? Bizarre!

    Weird.

My two desktop systems don't do that. (One of them has an Asrock motherboard.)

By the way, I've never had a monitor that powered down with the PC. Shutting down the PC kills the signal, but the monitor is still on. The power light on my current monitor flashes when the signal is removed.

Ah, the good old days, back when the power supply had a socket to plug a monitor in. It was in the days of AT motherboards and power supplies where the I|O switch on the front of the case attached directly to the power supply, not like the ATX boards where the switch connects to the motherboard and only tells the board to get things started.

Motherboard Power Still On After Win10 Upgrade

Old days indeed. My first PC clone was purchased in 1995. It was a Dell Dimension XPS 133c (Pentium one). (It was also my last appliance PC.) AT was already on the way out at that time.

I have the same issues as the OP. Two different machines do the same exact thing, all usb ports remain on when computer is shut down. Common thread is that both machines have Asus MB. One is a B85M-G R2 and the other is a P8H67-M LE. No issues unit win 10 upgrade. I tried updating bios, chipset, usb drivers to no avail. Also checked for the charging and wake on usb settings, but nothing.
