Windows 10: motherboard

My motherboard is slowly fading (9+ years) the only thing connected is the hdd. Can I replace the motherboard with a new one without having to buy and install a copy of win10?

What happens if I change my motherboard?

As it pertains to the OEM license this will invalidate the Windows 10 upgrade license because it will no longer have a previous base qualifying license which is required for the free upgrade. You will then have to purchase a full retail
Windows 10 license. If the base qualifying license (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) was a full retail version, then yes, you can transfer it.

Motherboard

I spoke to a office max rep and he said I can put in a new motherboard and it won't interfere with my windows 10 upgrade even if it has the digital entitlement because my windows 10 is on my hard drive and not my motherboard so installing a new motherboard
won't affect my windows 10 and I have the windows 7 pro full 32/64 bit disc all I have to do is replace my old motherboard with a new 1366 motherboard and put the cpu and the momory back in and that's it.

 

You might have to make a quick call to Microsoft to have them "roll over" the license from the old motherboard to the new motherboard. Then again, if the license is "married only to the UEFI or BIOS" -- perhaps all will go well. That's the scuttlebutt I got from various sources.
