    Mouse buttons 4 and 5 suddenly not recognised


    I have been using a M618 PLUS wireless mouse for about 9 months. I have arthritis in my fingers so I use Xmouse to map buttons 4 and 5 to scroll up and down the page to save me constantly using the mouse wheel. I use it in conjunction with a standard keyboard connected via the PS/2 port and for about 9 months this has worked perfectly.


    Around 2 weeks ago these buttons suddenly stopped working. Now when I click Mouse 4 nothng happens, and when I click Mouse 5, Office opens.


    Using PassMark KeyboardTest, I can see that when I click button 4 it is being interpreted as a keyboard press of Left Windows Key+Left Shift+Right Windows Key. If I press Mouse 5, it is being interpreted as Left Shift+Left Ctrl+Alt Gr+Right Windows Key.


    The other mouse buttons work normally, as does the scroll wheel.


    I have uninstalled Xmouse and there is no change. I have reinstalled Xmouse and there is no change. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver but again nothing changes. The driver has not been updated since 2018 so has not changed.


    I have no new hardware, or any new software. Yet for some reason Windows 10 has suddenly started to interpret the mouse buttons in this way. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this?

    The mouse button 5 still registers as mouse button 5 even though mouse button 4 registers as mouse button 5

    Does your mouse have a mouse button 5? And if so is that button registering as mouse button 4?

    After updating Windows 10 to version 1803, my mouse button 4 registers as my mouse button 5 in all games and applications such as Rainbow Six Siege and Chrome. I already tried opening device manager and reinstalling the drivers but nothings changed. Does
    anyone know how to fix this?
