Windows 10: Mouse disappears off screen and icons missing

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Since the upgrade I have noticed the following:

When my computer comes alive from screen saver mode, sometimes though not always all the icons are missing. The task bar is there but clicking on any item there does nothing. It's like everything just seizes up.

Any solutions please. It is frustrating.

Missing icons

An icon has gone missing from the taskbar (toolbar?) at the bottom of my screen.

It's the icon which allows me to safely unplug an external device. Is that device now attached forever to my computer?

Icons seem to disappear now and then. How can I retrieve them. This one is missing both from the toolbar/taskbar and from the menu that comes up when you click "^" on that toolbar/taskbar.

I hate icons! I can't be bothered memorizing their meaning. They never look like what they do. I can only understand them if their name appears when you mouse over. But I don't always know which one to mouse over.

AND: They're too tiny. I hate icons.

 

How to keep Windows 10 taskbar on top all windows

FIXED for me - I noticed the bottom few rows of pixels were missing off the bottom of the screen. The mouse was stopping at the last row of pixels, not disappearing down to where the taskbar would be. There was apparently a problem with my screen resolution
or registration.

I changed my screen resolution, then changed it back to the recommended setting (native resolution) and my taskbar is now accessible.

 

Sounds like you have a virtual desktop that got added somehow. Click on the taskbar icon that looks like the square with two ears (next to Cortana in my screen shot. See if you have more than one desktops and close the extra one.
