Windows 10: Mouse/Keyboard won't wake PC

Hi there,

I edited the BIOS settings to try and enable my keyboard and mouse and wake my computer from sleep, however now I am having the problem that moving the mouse/using keyboard also turns on my computer when it is powered off.

Is there a way to get my computer to wake, by only click or typing any key (not moving mouse), but at the same time, keyboard and mouse not affecting anything while the PC is turned off (only being able to press the power button on the PC tower to turn it on from shutting it down)?

Here is a photo of my BIOS settings currently. When I have "Resume from S3/S4/S5 by USB Device" enabled, the computer turns on (from being shut down) by moving the mouse/clicking/hitting any key on the keyboard. When it is turned off, the mouse or keyboard don't do anything while the computer is off or asleep.

Windows 10 updates shut down pc, not restart.

Every time W10 updates (you know, at 4am), it shuts down my pc entirely, and doesn't return it to the mode I left it in.

Hibernate is off / set to never, so the PC should enter hybrid sleep. I don't have a password set for waking from hybrid sleep, and neither my mouse nor keyboard work to wake up the PC, I have to full on power button, and enter my password, so I know it's
going to full shut down and not hybrid sleep.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

Also, my mouse won't wake up my pc from hybrid sleep, only keyboard, and I can't find a setting to change it either in the mouse settings or windows settings (it's USB like the keyboard, so should wake on USB, but doesn't).

No, if you set it in the BIOS, it means that your hardware will act on the keyboard and mouse. Has nothing to do with Windows.

If you only want it to happen in Windows 10 (Sleep/Hibernation), you don't need to activate it in the BIOS. You probably have to look into Device Manager and set the options that it is allowed to wake your PC. (You find this under "Power Management" at "Mice ...." and "Keyboard".)

 

This is what I tried before I altered the settings in BIOS. My keyboard and mouse settings were set to "Allow this device to wake my computer" and all the USB Hubs were set "Allow the computer to turn off this device" as unchecked. However this still wouldn't help.

If it makes a difference, I have a HP wireless keyboard and mouse Elite V2.

 

I have a Logitech wireless keyboard, and it works perfectly with it.

I have checked "Allow the computer to turn off this device" with all my USB hubs. And set the wake up part with my Keyboard en Mouse.


Something else you could try is:

• Win-x -> o (Power Options)
• Change plan settings
• Change advanced power settings
• USB settings -> USB selective suspend setting -> Set to Disable

See if this helps. On my system, it is enabled, but I heard that some devices/drivers have a problem with this.

 

Ah, yes I have already tried this, it is currently set to disabled.
All my USB hubs are set to checked for "Allow the computer to turn off this device".

If it has nothing to do with the BIOS, then I'm not too sure what else there is to do *Sad (settings wise)

 

I have been looking on the Internet for a solution, and the only thing I found, which we haven't done yet, has something to do with the hibernation part of Windows.

How this can be a problem for this, I don't know, but it's a thing you could try.

Open a command prompt at admin level and type in:

powercfg -h off
powercfg -h on

In the post I found, the person mentioned that he had to do it several times and suddenly, his keyboard and mouse could wake his PC after going to sleep or hibernation.

Disabling 'Fast startup' will have the same effect too as the two power options are linked.

 

I have gone to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what the power buttons do (left side) > Change Settings that are currently unavailable > Unchecked "Turn on "Fast startup". No luck.

I have also entered powercfg -h off, powercfg -h on in the command prompt 3 or 4 times, then tested it. Again with no luck.

 

Try typing 'powercfg/h off' instead (I just remembered that is what I used on a win10 device the other day)
