  1. Mouse/Keyboard work in BIOS, they do not work once computer boots

I have been using computers for over 25 years now, and I have never run across a problem like this. Backstory: I built my current PC about a year ago. Everything worked perfectly until about 5 days ago. At that point, it needed to restart. I restarted it, and upon boot neither the mouse or keyboard would respond. I tried a different mouse and keyboard, they did not work either. I tried both of the mice and keyboards with another PC, and they worked fine. This absolutely rules out the problem being the inputs. Then, I noticed that the mouse and keyboard do work in BIOS. However, after exiting BIOS and booting, they stop responding altogether. I have gone into system recovery countless times and tried literally every recovery option listed, to no avail. Any suggestions to help would be GREATLY appreciated. For the past 5 days I have literally had a $3000 paperweight.

    :)

  2. USB ports stopped working in Windows 10, after working in BIOS only

After switching on my computer, all usb ports become inactive once the computer boots up. If I go into BIOS, they are working, but not once boot up has competed. This seems to be a common problem. However, most solutions expect the keyboard or mouse to
be working. However, they are not working because the usb ports are dead! What can I do?

    keyboard and mousepad not working

How do you suppose he does this, when his keyboard and mouse is not working??? Mine only works in BIOS, once windows kicks in, no keyboard or mouse.

  4. Mouse/Keyboard work in BIOS, they do not work once computer boots

Hi JamesKBoyd. Welcome to the Tenforums @JamesKBoyd

Any chance you can boot to Advance Startup menu and invoke System restore (assuming your inputs work in this mode.)

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

To get this process started you need two failed start ups. Power on, see spinning dots, hold power key until machine powers off. Repeat. On third start up Windows will detect the two failed attempts and start the menu.

I assume when you boot all other USB devices are disconnected (not that you should have to do this normally but while testing).

You will want to look into installing and using a tool like Macrium Reflect, free, reliable and very handy in situations like this.

  5. Thank you, but yes. I have gone into System Recovery at least 20 times and basically tried each option there in order from most likely to help to least. I am so lost. I have never encountered anything like this, or anything that made my computer unusable for such a long period of time.

  6. Okay, so you are able to use Mouse / keyboard in the Advance Startup options, correct?

If so can you follow those menus to safe boot and see if they work in that mode. If they do I would recommend deleting all keyboard and mouse drivers and then reboot.
