Windows 10: Mouse lag/stutter on best performance power mode (Surface Book 2)

Since moving to an external monitor + keyboard and mouse setup, I have experienced constant keyboard and mouse lag/stutter with my wireless Logitech keyboard.

After searching online, I tried all the methods I could find to fix the issue however I had no success, so I caved and purchased a new wired keyboard and mouse instead in hopes that would fix the problem.

Unfortunately, the problem persisted with the new keyboard and mouse, however I have found that I can resolve the issue entirely by selecting the "better performance" power mode, rather than the "best performance".

Is there any reason for this? Is there any solution other than reducing my performance?

Surface book 2 stuttering in everything. (Solved)

Hi,

I recently got a surface book 2 15". and discovered when gaming and during general tasks my surface book stutters. in a game this would look like intermittent lag, around every few mins the game would freeze temporarily for around half a second, it can be
seen on GPU usage that when these stutters occur, the GPU usage goes from whatever it was to 0 until the stutter is over returning to its original usage. It can also be seen in regular usage with the mouse cursor freezing like the games for around half a second
regularly.

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with my experience with the surface book 2, with it costing so much money you would have thought they would have ironed out all the kinks.

Hopefully, there is a fix that is software based but I would be fine getting a replacement.

The first thing you’ll notice with the Surface Book with Performance Base is that the design remains relatively unchanged from the Surface Book. From the magnesium body, the 3000 x 2000, 6-million-pixel display and 1700:1 contrast ratio, to the iconic Fulcrum Hinge and multi-mode flexibility, the fundamentals and established innovations are still there.

Take a closer look and you’ll notice that the lip where the keyboard meets the hinge is slightly raised and the keyboard is recessed.

The slightly taller base provides room for the new GPU and larger 2-fan cooling system for twice the graphics performance, and extra battery capacity resulting in 30% extra battery life.

The new Performance Base, with its powerful GTX965M GPU, offers up to 1.9 Teraflops of performance. Thermal Design Reimagined

Increased performance, requires advanced thermal design, presenting one of the toughest engineering challenges for the team, who in the end decided on a dual fan system.

Acentric radial fins on the heat-exchangers increase the airflow created by the twin-fan system by 20% for optimum heat transfer. Allowing the GPU to run at higher power levels without increasing fan noise or letting the chassis get uncomfortably warm.
