    Mouse left-click items in Task manager doesn't highlight the item


    Recently, I noticed by chance how I'm unable to highlight any items in Task Manager by left-clicking with the mouse. Same issue reagardless what category I try, like startup apps, processes etc.I learned the item I click actually is selected. Because after clicking let's say a startup app in the list, I can then choose to enable/disable it using the various options in the upper right corner of the Task Manager window. Only that I don't see which item I just clicked since it's not highlighted.Anyone else seen the same issue, maybe an already known bug?I'm on Windows 11 Pro 23H2 OS Build 22631.

    Windows 10 menu item highlighting

    I don't have a problem with dragging or highlighting files. I have a problem with no

    highlighting on Windows menu items. Such as right-click on 'This computer' or

    Recycle Bin and move the mouse cursor to an item on the menu. The items on the

    menu do not highlight as the mouse cursor is positioned over them. The menu

    items in individual programs highlight but not in Windows menu items. Either on

    the desktop or in File Explorer.

    Left click not registering

    I suggest you start the trouble-shooting effort with simple left-click actions, e.g. like so:

    • Single click any desktop item. This should highlight the item.
    • Double-click any desktop item. This should open it.
    • Drag any desktop item do a different place, using your mouse. Can you move it?
    Could it be that your mouse buttons are reversed?

    Task Manager Startup Items missing

    I just tested this on Windows 10 version 1903 and it still applies. If you delete either your Startup folder or the All Users startup folder, then all items disappear from Task Manager Startup tab (even if all items normally there are from the registry).

    As soon as you recreate even an empty user startup folder or empty all users startup folder (both must be present), then all items reappear on the Task Manager Startup tab.
